that sucks. Lot's of people in SA running around without insurance. I'm not sure who would have to pay. Bummer.

Several years ago, my wife got hit and our truck was totaled. Dudes jumped out of the car and ran away. They reported the car stolen, so I had to pay for it.

That's why I always keep a healthy under-/un-insured motorist rider on my policy. Pays off. Helped my wife's niece buy a new Spark last summer. Insured the car and her on my policy to keep her costs down. Day after she bought it she was rear ended by a H&R driver. ******* even helped her move her car out of traffic, then bolted.

My F350 got hit in a parking lot and mashed the bumper into the bed. Still have to file on that one.

People can be real douche-bags.

I'm glad everyone is ok.

I strongly encourage EVERYONE I know to install front and rear facing HD cameras just for cases like this.

The ones that take off are usually illegal aliens with no insurance. Happens a lot.

it looks right now that it will be on us to repair. I will.not keep a car without full.coverage just for these reasons.

adjuster supposed to be out Monday. hopefully I can meet them there and see what they think and if close enough I'm going to argue diminished value see if we can get it there.

That may or may not be the case. I was rear ended in rush hour traffic on the interstate by a guy in a Kia SUV a few years ago. I left plenty of room between my front bumper and the rear of the Mustang in front of me, but was hit so hard his airbags deployed, engaged his kill switch engaged, pushed me into the Mustang and the Mustang into the Acura in front of it. The Kia driver's insurance paid for everyone's repairs without any of us having to go through our own insurance.

The bad news in that this happened a month after I bought my Vette. The good news is that I was driving my Murano.

I think that's what I said? The Kia insurance would EVENTUALLY have to pay for it all but the immediate billing would go down the line. Obviously if you work with the Kia insurance company directly rather than your own then your own my not know about it for a while. If there is no doubt about the fault the Kia insurance company would rather pay now rather than go to court. But in the OPs case there is no company to talk to except his own and the truck's because of the hit and run. So the truck's insurance company will get stuck with the bill for both unless they can find the H&R driver. The OP's insurance company will not accept any liability because it was the truck that hit their client and, I assume, the truck had insurance so it isn't a case of uninsured driver for them.

BTW, I would ALWAYS work with my own insurance company in a case like this because they have a greater motivation to fix the car right. The other guy's insurance company doesn't care if your frame is bent because, once you sign off, it isn't their problem any more. A faulty repair might cause my insurance company to have to pay a second time for a problem that causes another "accident" so they are motivated to fix it right the first time.

I am glad to hear that the wife is okay. That is the important thing.
Now for the car it would be a good opportunity to add a wide "booty" to the car.

I'd guess it'll show up as a track car or rebuilt with a salvage title. Lots of front end damaged cars out there with good rears.

This sounds like your ins co has taken the opportunity to get paid the full amount by the truck driver's inc co, so they will bail out of any future responsibility. They also get to determine the value of your car and increase your premium due to the most likely higher value of your replacement vehicle.

I will go out on a small limb and guess that a lot of them here are illegals. The last two runners that hit friends of mine, turned out to be illegals driving someone else's truck.
