Default Rotor and caliper upgrade

Finally upgraded my 06 base to z51 rotors, can't say enough about how it changed the look of my car! Calipers were powder coated by TPS, they also supplied the z51 brackets and rotors. When I bought the car the calipers were in rough shape so I put covers over them, really glad to get them off and show off my hardware.

Looks good. Expect two comments:

1) good decision getting rid of the covers

2) there are several better rotor upgrade choices than GM drilled ones

Wow!!! Thanks for pointing that out. Those are not the rotors I had discussed with the vendor, I thought I was getting slotted and dimpled rotors. I just checked the invoice, z51 drilled rotors, bummer! This up grade has been frustrating from the beginning, took over 4 weeks to get them to boot, then the post office dropped off only two of them on a friday and tied up one my installers lift till Monday. And the ss hoses that I ordered did not fit. It seems some of the venders in the vette world are better than others. I researched the crap out of this project with much help from this forum and then, BOOM, screwed by incompetence. Seems to happen too often. Still better than they were.

Great move on getting those calipers power coated. Caliper covers look too cheesey. I know it's too late now, but if you change out your rotors in the future all you need is slotted ones. That's what you see on race cars.

I ditched the OEM GM rotors off of my '10 GS when I realized that it is the same part number for both driver and passenger side... Upon closer inspection, it is the SAME part just installed backwards, meaning that the vanes turn the wrong way on one side...

I upgraded to StopTech slotted rotors that I got from Tire Rack and went with the CarboTech 1-piece "Bobcat" pads (since the padlets dust and squeak and are just a dumb idea, IMO), and have never looked back. The stopping power with that combo is MUCH better.

Your calipers look good

For stainless lines, I went to Essex Parts. I know the lines fit my GS (Z06 calipers), but I do not know if they will fit base calipers. Maybe finding out the thread pitch would answer that question. If it is the same threading, you could probably pull it off!

I was thinking about going with TPS for those rotors, but black zinc coated along with the powder coated calipers. I would be sending mine in for a core charge.

Are you happy with the quality of the calipers?

Thanks for the info. The whole setup looks great. I'm considering a similar change for my base '09 coupe. What did that whole package cost you? I was initially interested in slotted and cross drilled rotors but most of the expert advice I got on line recommended avoiding both cross drilled or slotted rotors. The cross drilled run the risk of cracking around the drill holes due to heat expansion and the slotted are superfluous unless you are tracking the car regularly. The slotted ones also reduce your pad life because the slots clean up the pads on application to assure good contact, removing a miniscule amount of pad material. The advice I got was to stay with OEM type solid rotors despite my concerns about warping under heavy braking.

The rotors I received were not the ones I had discussed with the vendor. There was some miscommunication. They are the ones listed on the invioce that I paid for. I wanted dimpled and slotted zinc coated rotors and after 4 weeks these are what arrived at my installers shop, I dropped shipped everything there, wont do that again. I dont track my car regularly, it's a weekend cruiser, however I do push it rather hard and would like to drag or autocross once in a while. I was looking for a better look from stock on a budget. Am having some medical issues so I didnt do the work my self, will do it myself in the future.Cost was:

used z51 powdercoated brackets 350.00
4 exchange calipers 2 colors red/black letters 400.00

Centric ceramic pads, brake fluid, speed bleeders
ss hoses, rotors, freight one way 600.00
deposit for return of old calipers and brackets 400.00
install everything and repackage calipers for return 400.00

My vette is a base an had the small rotors on the back now all the rotors are the same size and the cross drilled zinc rotors make it look much better.

Too bad that you ended up with something that was a bit different than what you wanted. If you're happy with the appearance, then that's a good thing, because the performance is almost the same.
