Disapointing (rumors) from the Chicago auto show
My mission for the show was to find out what the 2004 code Z16 option package consists of. Of course everyone of the GM representatives I talked to at the show had no knowledge of this yet. However, one did let go some possible C6 info. as I was stating my displeasure with the 50th anv. package, "Do not expect the first year C6 base model to have over 400 hp, more like 385 hp, all the concepts that have been in the magazines so far have been off". The source that told me of this info does not work in the Corvette line, but has ears. Overall the Corvette showing in Chigago this year was disapointing, with three total Vettes (53, 03 50th & C5R) not even a Z06. Needless to say I was let down, and hope the C6 is not as disapointing. :mad

I think that the talk about 385hp C6 is just "spin" to lower expectations. Less than 400 would be a major disappointment. Fortunately, Maximum Bob is not likely to shrink away from the hp wars that are going on. It is inconceivable that his tenure at GM will be marked by a Vette that is not a "must have" vehicle. The guy who brought us a 1000hp caddie is going to get us a legendary base (~430) and High performance (close to 500) Vette.

:iagree: Personally I think the last year C5 will have 385hp.Remember it's almost a tradition for the last of a generation to preview the next generation's hp. like the '62 , the '82 , & the '96 models.Just my op.

I agree with the sad display at the Chicago show. While the 53 was great, how the heck could they not show a Z06? Only a 50th vert on display, WTF!?

They key word is rumors. Until GM annouce the C6 everything you hear are rumors.

I wouldn't place too much stock in what the reps at car shows say. At the Philly show I knew twice as much as the rep about the XLR.

I wouldn't be surprised about a 385 hp 'vette the first year.
I can't believe horsepower still sells cars. It's about power, torque, and mostly weight. The Corvette has always been about low weight, and decent horsepower from the factory. What if they were to offer you a 300 HP 1400lb C6 with a CD of .21? Or would you buy the 3700lb 400 HP 'vette with a CD of .27?

Re: Disapointing (canadianvette)
Chevrolet never really pushes Corvette at the Auto Show. The reason being they don't "have" to sell this car it sells its self and because of the low production volume they know there is a buyer for every car already. There will be a Big splashy C6 intro next year but as I see it all will fall quiet again as the car goes on back order allocation at your local Chevy store. What Chevrolet needs to be careful of is C6 pricing $50K is going to be a HARD SELL unless this car is really wonderful and different. I think the new Mustang will be a much lower cost alternitive and so will the Nissan. I was not surprised to hear people saying at the show how un attractive the 50th package looks.

Not on the Z06 :D
FOR CORVETTE.
New-for-2003 Magnetic Selective Ride Control is an electronically controlled real time damping system that takes Corvette poise and balance to a dramatic new level.
This adjustable ride-control system uses an electromagnetic coil to alter fluid consistency within the shock absorbers to instantly adjust damping for road surfaces and conditions. With wheel sensors at each wheel adjusting damping force, the electromagnetic system responds five times faster than previous mechanical systems.
Magnetic Selective Ride Control is driver-adjustable, with two settings (Tour and Sport). Tour provides an amazingly controlled, smooth ride while Sport lets the driver "feel" the contour of the road to a greater degree. Optional on coupe and convertible, standard on 50th Anniversary Edition, not available on Z06.
