New Info re:XM Sat Antenna on 'Vert & OnStar News
Just spoke to my dealer and he told me that the XM antenna on the Coupe will be factory installed, but the convertible antenna will be DEALER installed! What this means to me is that I can have them leave it unisntalled and get my own micro antenna installed in a more favorable place!!! I have asked the salesperson to confirm this with the GM marketing reps and get back to me.
As for OnStar: Verizon has just struck a deal to allow Verizon Wireless customers to use their minutes with their existing OnStar systems. View this press release for additional info http://investor.verizon.com/news/VZ/...6_X954350.html
This would make OnStar very attractive for VZW users. Dont bother calling Verizon, they dont have too much info yet. OnStar reps DO have info on this. Only problem is that new Vettes, at least until Oct, may have the Gen 5 Analog system and not the Gen 6 Digital system needed for this. I am waiting for word back from dealer. He mentioned that this came up at a training session last week and there was mention that the Gen 5's could be upgraded to Gen 6's. Again, when I get more info, I will post it.....

Here's the latest. Just got off the phone with my salesman....
YES! It's confirmed! The XM Antenna for a convertible IS DEALER INSTALLED. Furthermore, the OEM XM Radio is compatible with ANY current and future antenna design! You can request that your dealer NOT install the antenna if it is a convertible. (I am now going to order XM Radio. Will be making the change to my pre-order tomorrow morning.)
OnStar update: Vettes being built until approx Oct 2004 will have the existing analog system that will not be compatible with the new Verizon-OnStar package. Vettes being built after Oct-Nov 2004 should get the new digital version. The good news is that the analog devices can be UPGRADED. Here's how it would work (as explained to me): if you prepay for 2 years of OnStar, GM will upgrade your vehicle at no cost when the devices become available by 2-3 qtr 2005. If not, the owner will be charged a "nominal" fee to make the upgrade.
Hope this helps....

I understand, but I prefer NONE of them do it! Leave all the wiring and I'll get it done on my own....

If it is true that the Gen5 can be upgraded to Gen6, I will be switching to Verison. The onstar minutes are expensive. I just purchased 100 minutes for 39.95. That hands free phone in the onstar is awesome. Anyway I am not too jazzed about ATT Wireless anyway.

Not sure I'd want anyone to install my XM antenna but me. Discretely.
I liken the XM antenna to a mole on a really hot chick. Sticks out and doesn't look good.

I was just as shocked as you, curvesman! When he told me this today, I said, please make sure before I change my order again. He claimed that he told me this originally! I never recall hearing that, but am glad now that he updated me! I still have a chance to make the change. Will let you all know as soon as he gets back to me!

That upgrade post is great news, now I need to find out if my SS Silverado and Escalade can be upgraded as well.

This is most interesting information. I still have time to change my order to add XM, so I want to know more about this. Thanks for posting.

What is your source of information? How reputable is it? Please let me know here or privately. If this is true, then I've got some issues to discuss with my dealer!!! :mad

Re: New Info re:XM Sat Antenna on 'Vert & OnStar News (portmgr198)
Just checked a second source and confirmed that the XM antenna is installed at the plant AND it will be black, like the coupe, not body colored as was expected.
The XLR antenna for XM is dealer installed.

Re: New Info re:XM Sat Antenna on 'Vert & OnStar News (Another Yellow)
Here is what I was told by GM's Sales mgr for OnStar and XM: The XM antenna for a convertible WILL be body colored and will NOT be factory installed. It will be installed by dealer. Also was told by my dealer that Gary at the museum has not been given a definite answer on this one. I called GM sales and they told me that they belive that it will be handled just like the XLR (dealer installed). ALso confirmed that it will be body colored on the convertible. They said that they would elevate my question to a higher level and would get back to me by Friday or Tuesday at the latest. I will post that answer when I rcv it.
I hate this confusion!!!!

Re: New Info re:XM Sat Antenna on 'Vert & OnStar News (portmgr198)
Well, boys, I hate to have to agree, but I was just re-re-re-informed that the antenna for both coupe and convert WILL be factory installed! To make matters worse, I was now told that NONE of the antennas will be body colored! This stinks! I feel like I have been spinning my wheels like a moron on this one! I am waiting to hear from GM Sales Desk to see what they know, but I am preparing for the worst.

Re: New Info re:XM Sat Antenna on 'Vert & OnStar News (portmgr198)
Well, I got thecall from the GM-Chevy corp sales desk today. They confirmed it.....all XM Sat antennas will be factory installed. They did say that only on the convertible will the antenna be body colored and black on the coupe. What the heck was Tom Peters thinking when they did this one? What a dissapointment...

OnStar advised me that all 2005 Corvettes would have digital generation 6 service. What is your dealer's source of info. Thanks.

Re: New Info re:XM Sat Antenna on 'Vert & OnStar News (suzukaze)
It was prelim info. He could not verify if all new Corvettes would have them or if it would only be those being manufactured after Oct-Nov. He claimed to have rcvd this info from an OnStar training rep.
