Our very reliable sources had a sit down with ‘the Lutz’ last night on the eve of the 2007 LA Auto Show. Bob Lutz, Vice Chairman of GM, was nothing but friendly about sharing what GM has in the works.

While many of you think the 75 year Lutz may not have much ‘need-for-speed,’ our sources say that during casual conversation over dinner, Lutz mentioned that he personally pushed the upcoming Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 over 200mph at the Michigan Proving Ground.


Lutz also confirmed that the ZR-1 will make its official debut at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show. The ZR-1 is expected to be powered by a 6.2 liter V8 engine that will produce 650 horsepower.

It shouldn't have a problem with that speed, and I would imagine that there have been many a mile put on the car by now at that speed and faster.

This Dassault-Dornier Alpha jet in a German air force color scheme was another unexpected treat. It's owned and flown by Bob Lutz, who was a US Marine Corps aviator and is now a vice chairman at General Motors. He showed that not only does he have enough good taste to buy an interesting aircraft, but he can fly the thing too! He did a number of fast banking passes and left a very good impression on the crowd!

Per other members' GREAT aerodynamic drag VS. power analyses, 215-217 is the BEST this vehicle can obtain, should it be released as we know it. That's still very far into the category...
