Advise on '06 Z06?????
I'm considering going from my '07 Vert to a '06 Z06. I know the seller (family) and I know this Z has been meticulously cared for. Approx 12,000 miles. Have there been any particular issues with the '06 model year that should be considered?

Since you personally know the seller you shouldn't have to worry about any undisclosed accidents of mechanical problems and able to buy in confidence.
Good luck and respect it's power, especially on cold tires.

Main thing to ask about is if the roof delaminated and if/when it was fixed. I'd ask for a complete service history pulled from GMVIS. All you need is the VIN, some of our CF dealers will run one for you free of charge if you don't want to ask the seller.

'06 Z06 is a great year. No major issues that couldn't be fixed easily...roof, shifter rattle, etc.
I recently picked up my 2nd '06 Z06 so obviously I'm not concerned with this model year.

I took delivery of mine Jan 06' and other than the roof recall, nothing. I run several road course track day's a year on Hoosier R6's hitting the rev limiter, and thinking of changing the alternator. Heard GM changed to a pulley clutch unit in later years, for better continued high rpm track usage. This is not a Corvette specific problem, and pretty much affect's any make and model driven this way. Since the LS-7 easily rev's to 7000 rpm, probably a good idea.

I have had a few issues with my '06... but everything was covered under warranty. IMO I would not buy ANY Z06 with out some sort of warranty!!!
With that said, my Z is by far my favorite car I have ever owned.

If it doesn't have the warranty, I'd look elswhere, it's a buyer's market right now and you can pretty much name your price.
I have a black '06 with 8,000 miles, completely stock, showroom condition, always garage-kept, never in rain, with the extended GM warranty. Just put it away for the winter yesterday (Chicago). If you want to buy mine, let me know.

I agree. Make sure your seller has picked up the extended warranty. It's transferable to new owner and no matter how well you know them, you don't know what they've done in the car every mile, and you never know what might break tomorrow.

Thanks for all of your feedback. I probably should have been a little more specific; Is there any reason to consider an '07 over an '06 due to any possible improvements such as rear end update, axles etc? I know what was done in '08 with the T6060 and steering but I'm trying to keep it within a given budget.

5 year/100k mile drive train warranty started in 07, 3 year/36k mile previous.
07 have radio controls on the steering wheel
06 and early 07 had the homelink (1 led) garage door opener, etc.. which works with the mild2wild exhaust control

It is plain a simply a buyers market right now. I would look at 07 or 08 just do to the waranty. parts are not cheap. I have an 07 with 16k and I think I may be starting to have a clutch issue. I am not that worried because I have waranty. one of the reasons I bought an 07 was 5 year 100k waranty.
that being said if you get an 06 at a good enough deal you could deal with a mechanical issue and still be fine. when I bought mine it was ~2k delta between 06 to 07. that made me just pick the 07.

warranties are over rated. hate to burst every ones bubble but your clutch, brakes and anything else that is a wear & tear item in not covered under your warranty. if you track the car and it grenades....good luck with your warrantied car.

I've had nothing but BAD experiences with extended warranties and sports cars. Take the money it costs for a warranty and put the money in the bank to use in case something goes wrong.
With an extended warranty, if something expensive such as a transmission or engine goes out, most of these companies will go out of their way to PROVE that whatever broke was YOUR FAULT or was caused by any aftermarket part on your car. Even if there was NO WAY it could of caused it... they'll blame it on that part.
I had a warranty claim for a dead engine denied over a CAT BACK exhaust and a few suspension mods on my old WS6 Trans-am while I was in college. I have never bought an extended warranty again nor will I ever.
I wouldn't be surprised if a warranty company would try to blame an aftermarket stereo for a broken tranny to get out of paying.
BUT if you plan on keeping the ENTIRE car stock.. from the tires on up..... go for it.

A GM warranty is a major consideration in buying (and selling) a used Z06.
Also, most folks paid very high prices for these cars in 2006 and are unwilling to let them go at market price. I found several 2008 models at or below the price of 2006 cars.

my tranny went out in my 08 coupe and they replaced it no problem it was not completely stock. Just a catback but all the talk about voided waranties are usually people not knowing the law or not fighing hard enough.
anybody who would tell a dealer they tracked there car is a moron.
