Harvey,
The owners manual ( or GM service advise to techs ) stated that wax may leave a white power in the minor imperfections that the clear coat has. I however, wanted to wax mine.
I opted for colored wax. I chose a black polish, and applied lightly. Just like waxing the rest of the car. It has left no residue, and looks great. It was a little hard to remove ( just due to the nature of it ). I had it on my last ZR for around 1300 miles. I also have done it to my new one.
Hope this helps.
Mike

After washing and drying, I used clear seal on it, few sprays and light strokes and it dried completely and left behind a mirror like finish. I agree w avoiding a wax as the residue could be a problem.

Turtle Wax makes a black liquid wax - called The Black Box or something like that. Real easy to use, and keeps swirls, fine scratches from showing (if you have any).
