[ZR1] Corvette for 2012

No. You're point is a lot of buyers may not know the downsides to R-Compound and 'need to be informed'. I disagree, assuming they're checking that box.
I think you missed my point....

I can't wait the see the response in this forum when a GT-R owner says, "You only won because you have R-Compound tires". Now that's what I'm looking forward to.... I bet all of the sudden they become dot legal street tires, and not magical racing tires good for 10 seconds a lap

I can assure you that'll be the mindset. I'm sorry you don't see that. But, I don't care that you don't, either. There's a reason I normally ignore your somewhat useless posts. I'm going to go back to doing that now.

I'm elated that MPSC tires are coming out in ZR1 sizes. I'm hoping other brands will follow suit.
Viper boys will have to pull new tricks out of their sleeves for their upcoming version.

New MH3 (versus MH2 standard) transmission available for the ZR1 is very interesting....... I would like to hear and be able to compare the ratio numbers.
Why the ZR1 cannot get a windowless hood like the Z06 is beyond me
Seems to me that the Z06 came out a littler better in upgrades than the ZR1........ not that I am not happy for the Z06 but it would have been nice to see a little more for GM's halo car

There are vendors who can supply windowless hood for ZR1's if you dislike the window.
The Z06 sure came out better. The only performance upgrade the ZR1 got was the MPSC option.

Interesting that PTM is now available on the Z06, I remember a few ZR1 folks saying it would probably remain exclusive to the ZR1.....looks like GM has taken another feature of it's baddest vette and handed it down.
I fail to see the point of making features "exclusive" to the top tier vettes for 1 or 2 years to just pass it down the line. Is GM looking to "bait" people into paying more for first on the block status?
Example.....ZR1 could've had PTM back in 2009 (not available till 2010), Z06 w/Z07 could've had PTM in 2011 (not available till 2012), Grand Sport could've had F55 in 2010 (not available till 2011).....see what I mean. The technology is THERE, GM decides to try and milk it as far as possible and get those returning customers to trade up year after year.
Smart on their part to a point.....but with vette sales lacking, less people to trade up year after year, and many people catching on to this gimmick of "exclusivity".....not surprising sales have declined year after year.

(PDE) ZR1 High Performance Package, includes (RUV) Black cup style lightweight 19" front and 20" rear wheels, (XFH) Michelin PS Cup tires and (MH3) 6-speed close-ratio manual transmission
Plus here are the trans codes for 2012:
(MM6) is now the RPO code for the 6-speed manual transmission for Coupe, Convertible and Z06
• (MZ6) is now the RPO code for the 6-speed manual transmission for Grand Sport
• (ME2) is now the RPO code for the 6-speed manual transmission for ZR1
• (MYC) is now the RPO code for the 6-speed automatic transmission
(MH3) Looks like a new transmission

The trickle down options/features of the ZR1 to other models reminds me of C4 ZR-1's. I remember how upset ZR-1 owners were when the ZR-1 specific items made it to the lesser models.
I think this will hurt ZR1 sales as people won't shell out extra money for little differences.
History repeats itself.

Are you sure? This reads like its a performance option package for the ZR1 only: Wheels, Cup Sports and a close ratio trans

The MH3 is NOT new. The ZR1 already has it. It will now be offered as part of a package for non-ZR1 cars.

Could be a typo but it seems to me that there is a special performance package available for the ZR1 that will have a new close ratio 6 speed
(RUV) Black cup style lightweight aluminum, 19" front and 20" rear wheels (included and only available on Z06 with [F55] Magnetic Selective Ride Control or [Z07] Z06 Ultimate Performance Package; also included and only available on ZR1 with [PDE] ZR1 High Performance Package)
• (Q5V) Machined-face, cup style aluminum, 19" front and 20" rear wheels, available on Z06 (with F55 or
Z07) and ZR1
• (XFH) Michelin PS Cup tires (included and only available with [Z07] Z06 Ultimate Performance Package or [PDE] ZR1 High Performance Package)

The MH3 in 2010 is a close-ratio 6-speed. That is fact.
The real question is does the 2012 MH3 close-ratio 6-speed has different gear ratios. This I don't know for sure. I assume it is.
The other unknown is can you order PDE for non-ZR1 cars? If yes, I doubt the gear ratios changed.
I would be shocked if GM reused MH3 for a different transmission for a consecutive year and used another code for the old transmission. That would make no sense. But, then again, we're dealing with GM.
These questions will be answered once official release info is released.

I didn't miss your point. You don't know the average Corvette buyer, specially the ones that can afford things like ZR1s. Unless the Chevy salesman sits down and informs them of the potential downsides of Rs, they're going to be blissfully unaware and honestly think they're just buying "the best."
I can assure you that'll be the mindset. I'm sorry you don't see that. But, I don't care that you don't, either. There's a reason I normally ignore your somewhat useless posts. I'm going to go back to doing that now.

Anyone got any salt for this crow? And what do I do with the extra feathers when I'm done? I'm beyond flabbergasted that GM is including R-compound cup tires from the factory. Very, very unlike them, and they're going to make for some unhappy campers come tire change time.

i know it is cliche to say an old 06 with mods will be faster then a 2012 model with z07 package etc... but from the 06 1lz price to the 2012 1lz price there has not been 25k worth of improvements to the car

exactly, thats the main problem, I can go buy a set of cups for my 06 Z06 and run the same times as the newest model.
ill be all in around $44k. leather wrapping everywhere, PTM, Magnetic ride or even carbon brakes are not big enough differences to fork out $50K more for same performance in this economy, even though I have the $$.
