If I was there to help the gentleman out of his car I'd have said:
Please cover your face while I break your window.

The average person has no idea the car has to be opened via a lever in emergencies or power failures. I always make it a point to let any new passenger know about the lever just in case. It is sad the owner in the link didn’t know about it.

Some people just shouldn't own certain cars. The fact that he found out there is a procedure to get out after the fact but sold the car and is afraid of it because of that is ridiculous

Failure to read the Owners Manual. This could have happened in any C6 or any other car that now uses solenoids to lock/unlock with no conventional mechanical apparatus as an alternate other than a pull wire.

Even the Chevy dealership wasn't that helpful. They knew about the rear release but not the one by the seats.
I need help understanding the following:
Obviously, there was enough power to open the door and obviously there was enough power to lock the door. How and why did the door lock? Did he manually lock it?
How did the trunk (hatch?) open?!?!!
I need help understanding the following:
I closed the door and the door locked and would not open
He called the chevy dealership. They recommended I get out of the seat and crawl to the back of the ZR1 and pull the emergency tag. It is not a pretty sight to see a fat, 65 yr old man crawling to the back of the car. Well I did and the trunk opened.

The guy panicked like the people in the "runaway" toyota. He is probably a nuclear physicist without any practical sense.

I know that Onstar module has a back up battery pack so it can work if the main power is severed in a crash so I would think it would work, but maybe not.
I would also guess that his owners manual was sitting in his glove box and all he had to do was get it out and read.
