If I was there to help the gentleman out of his car I'd have said:

Please cover your face while I break your window.

Given that he couldn't operate the car in his garage, lord knows what damage he'd do actually driving it. Glad he sold it.

The average person has no idea the car has to be opened via a lever in emergencies or power failures. I always make it a point to let any new passenger know about the lever just in case. It is sad the owner in the link didn’t know about it.

Some people just shouldn't own certain cars. The fact that he found out there is a procedure to get out after the fact but sold the car and is afraid of it because of that is ridiculous

How he knows to even turn on a computer is a mystery to me...

I wonder what he thinks that blue button on the mirror is for. He may have been really old though.

I had to teach the guys at Cadillac how to open a CTSV once when I got locked in due to a dead battery. Amazing no one knew about the release.

Does the blue button still work when the battery is dead?

Failure to read the Owners Manual. This could have happened in any C6 or any other car that now uses solenoids to lock/unlock with no conventional mechanical apparatus as an alternate other than a pull wire.

Even the Chevy dealership wasn't that helpful. They knew about the rear release but not the one by the seats.

I need help understanding the following:
I closed the door and the door locked and would not open
Obviously, there was enough power to open the door and obviously there was enough power to lock the door. How and why did the door lock? Did he manually lock it?

He called the chevy dealership. They recommended I get out of the seat and crawl to the back of the ZR1 and pull the emergency tag. It is not a pretty sight to see a fat, 65 yr old man crawling to the back of the car. Well I did and the trunk opened.
How did the trunk (hatch?) open?!?!!

Who knows what this guy did. Probably locked it, played with the radio and AC and kept trying to start it to a point where no juice left to open the door. Both the door and hatch releases work w/o battery power.

The guy panicked like the people in the "runaway" toyota. He is probably a nuclear physicist without any practical sense.

I know that Onstar module has a back up battery pack so it can work if the main power is severed in a crash so I would think it would work, but maybe not.

I would also guess that his owners manual was sitting in his glove box and all he had to do was get it out and read.

I'm sorry, I had a brain fart. You're absolutely right. There is a backup battery for Onstar. It is a use-once feature. Once it's activated it needs to be replaced.
