ZR1 Chrome Wheel Advice
Hello, I'm contemplating purchasing the black cup wheels for my red 2010 ZR1. It came with the chrome wheels from the factory, but I like the black cup wheel look. My car has very low miles on it, therefore the chrome wheels are just like new. I would put my tires on the black cup wheels. I was wondering what I should do with my chrome wheels, therefore looking to get some input:
(1) Keep and store them
(2) Trade them in for $1000 credit towards the black cup wheels
(3) Sell them separately if there is sig. interest for chrome ZR1 wheels
I know the chrome wheels cost quite a bit more to buy from GM vs. the black cup wheels.
Thanks,
RK

Good advice! List them in the C6 Parts for sale forum, maybe they'd sell locally. BTW if you are fortunate you will be "one of the old guys" some day. Then the younger guys can poke fun at you for liking black when they have the new chrome look.

Its simply not worth unloading them for 1 to 1.5k.
You own a top dog corvette, it shouldn't make much difference if you don't have this spare pocket change in your wallet.

I guess I'm old. I don't get the obsession with black wheels. I like them in limited doses, but seems like they are all the rage these days. Black wheels are like belly buttons now. I guess when everyone has them, some guys will start switching back to chrome so they don't look like everybody else. One of the forum sponsor dealers... seems like his entire inventory of Corvettes has black wheels.

I just did the same thing, I have never liked the chrome look but I know some do. I like to switch wheels in the winter and put my 3pc wheels in the basement so I do not have any corrosion issues and with the black Cup wheels I never have to worry about chrome peeling from the temp changes in the garage plus I will drive it once and awhile when there has been salt on the road.
My wheels had 1k miles and were actually easier to sell than I thought. You will have to handle the pm's and emails of people wanting to pay $1k but you can get at least $1500, mine sold for more than that in just about a week. I saw no need to keep the wheels being they would not go back on the car while I own it.

I think would trade'm and get the credit. They are on every Gm zr1
You could get your chrome wheels powdercoated. To a Gloss Black
or Comp Gray both look better than chrome to some eyes.
Im having the same thoughts but not going cup wheels. You can get the GM wheel from Bob's already coated black too!

If you're going to keep the car forever, then keep them. If not, then dump them.

I like the cup wheels much better than the chrome ZR1 wheels, which were previously my favorite wheel. What you do with them is up to you, but at only a $1,000 credit (Im assuming no tires are involved there), it not worth trading them in. Keep them. Buy the cup wheels. Thats what I did

I also have a red car with chrome wheels and I am getting a set of black finspeed in spring. I think I am going to sell the wheels for good and use that cash get some other upgrades.

I'd keep them for the reasons others have posted above. I love the cup style rims (despite the stupid name) that came with my CE ZR1 and couldn't imagine anything else looking better.
And, yes, I do like the OEM chrome ZR1 wheels since I am an old man and still find myself longing for the classic look of 50's and 60's chrome anything.
