[ZR1] New ZO6 2015
#81
I dont think so, here's my theory. We all know that the ZR1 wasnt supposed to be, but with the GM going bankrupty and the tanking economy. they decided to postpone C7 R&D. The answer to that a super C6 variant.....The blue devil!! It was littarely a test bench for GM,But remain in the C6 body. Because they couldn't justified in hard economy millions dollards for corvette devellopement. Just thinkof every single new features of the ZR1 they are now using at large but cheaper! pricey carbon coating, Carbon brakes(C7 Z06) 6,2 supercharged, neat PTM Crazy factories fuel pump setup, clutches and the list goes on. So i might be wrong, but Im thinking No C7 ZR1, time will tell i guess
Good point..I knew the ZR1 was almost a no go but so glad it was...My thinking I just don't think they'll make two boosted performance Vetts and if the Z06 does come out to be 625hp and 650tq it will out perform the C6ZR1 plus can GM afford two hi Perf low production Vetts..only time will tell I guess I sure hope they do decide on another ZR1 because It'll be one heck of a monster!!...

I wonder when the ZR with twins debuts if they'll drop the SC'd Z - i.e. whether the twin turbo ZR will "replace" the SC'd Z as they transition to V8 with twins across vette and Caddy platforms?
Doesn't seem like they'll need two halo vettes with performance very close to each other.

It's a nice thought to believe that our C6 ZR1's will remain the HP Kings but I don't believe that will be the case. If there were to be no ZR1, the Z06 hp would be even more. Why limit it to less than 638? One of the big forum dealers told me there will be a C7 ZR1 in a year; believe it or don't. We will have to wait and see.

My only question is: When will they let you build your engine again?

I agree, but I still can't see the top C7 Corvette having less hp than the C6 ZR1. Especially with other brands topping that. To me it is a step backwards that they wouldn't take. Time will tell but I believe there's a 700 hp C7 in the future and I can hardly wait!

I think there will be too, maybe not as a 2016 MY but maybe 2017, again, it becomes a yes or no........or back to 50/50.

GM wants and needs a TT V8 for their halo Cadillac models so they will strap it in the ZR1 as well and charge accordingly to help amortized cost.

The ZR1 will go upmarket as GM's exotic super GT car ala Ferrari F12 for 1/3 the cost. It will be highly track capable and faster than the Z06, but very refined and more of a GT supercar. There is room for both. The Z06 will be the track rat and the ZR1 will be $150k and compete against the F12, McLaren, 911 Turbo S, etc in luxury and speed and beat them all. Very very fast luxury GT car that can also lay it down on the track, but you'll pay for it. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see an 'acoustics' package standard that quiets the interior noise down substantially to add to the luxury GT feel.

I do hope you're right about the ZR1.

Interesting analysis...here's hoping that GM can make it happen.

Tightening a few screws with a machine is hardly building an engine. I know the build experience is a little more than that, but truthfully not much more.
Complete waste of time and money IMO, but to each his own.

Why not they went from 405 to 505 in 06 so whats the big deal? This car will beat a zr1 in all categories,Guaranteed. As it should given its a new platform versus one that dates back to 2005 in the c6.
