Default burning rubber smell

no it is not from doing burn outs . When I drive my car for 30 minutes or so, whether spirited or not, when is return to my garage I smell something that smells like hot rubber or burning rubber near the back of the car. Doesn't smell like clutch but I am not sure. Any ideas?

(A couple of weeks ago I ran over a piece of tire in the road
suppose that bent something too close to the exhaust?)

Are you sure you don't have a chunk of tire stuck to or above your exhaust? I ran over a bag in my old Z06 once and it stunk like plastic until I got under it and scraped it off the top of the X-pipe, I just about never found it even after looking for a while on the lift.

No I have it almost every time I return to the garage. I have looked and smelled underneath. Seems to be stronger around the mufflers but couldn't find anything in particular. I also had a similar issue on my 06 base C6.

No help here.

I have the same issue, and like you, am not sure what the cause is. If I had to guess I would say clutch.

I forget the name of the stuff, but my wife uses it at her work and its a residue from an adhesive used in the car. Smells toxic for about month or so, then it's all good. I had headaches, so drove with windows down and kept a fan going in my garage.

Me Too...

I have this same type of smell when I return to my garage, but only after some mildly spirited driving. If I get on it even once on my 8 mile drive home, I get the smell. If I drive normally, nothing.

Tires? Puzzling to me as I'm not stomping it, so the rear tires are not breaking loose. (I don't think.)

Could it be clutch? I have no idea what that would smell like anyway, and why should that happen? How could you check this anyway?

Breaks? I doubt it as I don't think I'm applying the breaks hard at all during most of my driving.

I'm open to suggestions.

No leak of any fluid that may reach the exhaust?

Yep mine is always like that even after a long trip of normal highway driving. NFI what causes it but certainly not clutch or engine and smell is still just there after 5 years so mustn't be anything serious.

I suspect it is those wide rear tyres tracking around corners and being so wide causing scrub and hence the smell but certainly not stressing me. I have moved past sniffing my rears like some mongrel dog each time I get home as I truly think it is nothing serious.
