Default ZR1 catch can help please.

I've been reading some of the threads on the LSA/ZL1 forums regarding oil in the intake and catch cans. Some of the pictures show a significant amount of oil getting in there. Has anyone found it necessary to install one on their ZR1. This car is not going to be tracked more than once a year with regular spirited driving the rest of the time. I bought one for my GS from CCA and didn't have a chance to install it. I was thinking of selling it but not sure I should now. If I do use one on my ZR, should it be vented. Anybody have an opinion here?
Thanks

I did a write-up a little while back.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...l-zr1-ls9.html

If you go through the whole thread it was improved upon by kristopherbush and Narush

I switched to the dual can setup shortly after kristopher posted up pics of his.

No, bone stock cars have been known to oil in the blowers from poor PVC control.

timmyZ06 just had his blower lid off and it had a bunch of oil on the inside, his car was stock. I told him to throw some cans on there to help control the oil issue.

This is a must do mod in my opinion for these cars.

As C5 mentioned the factory PCV system does not do a good enough job keeping oil out of the blower.

If you were going to use a single can would you say the valley pan would be the best option or the valve covers, or do you feel the two can system would be required for a stock application? I may take this car to the track once a year and the rest of the time regular fun driving. As Kristopherbush said in post 77 of this link below, there wasn't much oil in the first can but the valley can was nearly full.

Def, hook it up to the one that goes to the valley. That is where most of the oil will come from.

Thanks for the help guys. Narush, do you think the weight of these cans (two) mounted on that 6mm hood latch bolt is too much? How do you find the mount strength? Adequate?

That bolt will hold them just fine I also used two L brackets for that reason and it provides great support for the cans.

I did two seperate ones this ensures your filtering the clean side and the dirty side as per a conversation with RX!

Sorry, I was looking at Kristopherbush's picture. It appears to show a longer single bracket? You're using the Rev X so it's a bit different.
Also, looking at Elite Engineering site I see they have a second generation can but I haven't figured out if I could use this in our application or not?

Kristopherbush

Did you make the dual bracket or did you get it from Elite?

GMJim,

Elite makes the dual bracket.

I was also looking at the gen 2 can's, but talking to the salesperson at JDP Motorsports it's bigger and only has one inlet port, but two exit ports.....mainly for turbo applications. I decided I rather have 2 cans then try to drill and tap another inlet port.

I finally ordered 2 catch cans from JDP Motorsports along with a dual catch can bracket(Camaro V6 duel can bracket) like Kristopherbush has in that photo.
Cost was $298 with free shipping.

You can give them a call and they can customize the order for a dual bracket.

Well, I'll say it. It's a waste of time and money for almost every application. Flame away!
