C6Zr1 vs C7Z06 - comparing Car and Driver reviews
Dug out my old car and driver on the 2009 z06 and zr1 and compared those ratings to the jan 2015 car and driver road test of the c7Z06 a8.
The Zr1 is 2 seconds faster to 150mph than the c7z06. The c6Z06 is a half second quicker to 150mph than the c7z06.
Jan 15 Car and driver lists the c7z A8 with 2.41 final drive gear ratio.
1st gear is 4.56 2nd is 2.97 3rd is 2.08 4th is 1.69 5th is 1.27 6th is 1.0
7th is .85 8th is .65
for the 2009 z06 car and driver dec 2008 lists 3.42 final drive ratio
1st is 2.66 2nd=1.78 3rd=1.3 4th=1.oo 5th=.74 6th=.5
I would imagine chevy had to really mess around with the gear ratios final drive and in the transmission to meet fuel economy standards and to deal with the 4 cylinder deactivation. Thats why the c7z along with the 400 pound extra weight is not performing as well as it should with all that horsepower and torque.
as far as dimensions. the c6Zs are about 1 inch shorter and 1 inch narrower then the c7z. I think this refers to the body of the car itself.
The C6Zs have a half inch wider rear track and a about 3/4 of an inch wider front track then the c7z.
The C7z has about a 1 inch longer wheel base.
Car and driver didn't post any detail specs on the C7Z trans and rear end ratio specs for the manual 7. But quarter mile times are about equal to the c6Z06 on ET and MPH.
Car and driver lists top speed of the c7Z a8 at 185 mph. This is actually 1 mph slower the a base c6 Z51 as tested in 2009.
The C7Z pulls 1.19 lateral G's cornering with the z07 package. The C6Z06 pulled 1.06 on run craps. I think the c6z with cups pulled 1.13g.
The C6Zr1 is still the king of acceleration and top speed,
I dare not post this on the c7z06 forum. -- maybe one of you zr1 owners can take that chance

Even if the C7Z were faster or quicker, I just haven't warmed up to the design at all so it really wouldn't change my interest in the car.
(Love my ZR1)
I'm glad the new C7Z owners are happy, and I'm happy for them.

Let's see what happens when they finally meet on the road...

Based on everything empirical that I've read, all this makes sense. Thanks for the post.
Thought about posting new thread with a link to this thread in the C7Z06 forum, - something like "Still da King" - but my level headed thinking got in the way.
Someone will do it - in any case, we're going to find out soon.

When someone does post this info over there, and they will, it could shut down the whole C7 section. Most of the Z06 guys aren't so bad but a few dudes in General are real whackos.

I always felt that the new Z was not going to kill the mighty ZR in any way performance wise. Great post.
yea some of those dudes just think that the new Z is just gonna decimate everything..

It will be interesting to see what the c7z06 fast list will start reporting compared to the c6Z and Zr

The C7Z06 does not accelerate well from 100-140MPH (and beyond) at least the one they tested at Rd Atlanta didn't. The rear wheel HP and torque that Vengeance recorded this week should produce a faster accelerating car. Time will tell.

...same here, did my "old mag" comparos cause the straight line acceleration numbers for the M7 C7 Z06 didn't seem quick enough.
Too bad Vengeance Racing didn't take their stock M7 C7 Z06 to the local 1/4 mile track to see what she'd run.
And what about the 185 mph top speed for the auto C7 Z06?
I've read the drag coefficient (Cd) for the new Z06 is ~0.3.
Our ZR1's Cd is reported to be 0.36.
It's said the ZR1 achieves a 205 mph top speed in sixth gear. The M7 C7 Z06 gear ratios are essentially the same as our ZR1's (2009 - 2011, and PDE 2012 - 2013) so I'd expect the new car to have a similar - or greater - top speed. Hmmm? Wait and see what the top speed is for a M7 Z06.
It's going to be a long winter reading about all this stuff...and only looking at the battery-tendered cars in the garage...
Think I'll take the ZR1 to the drag strip next spring and see what she'll run
Just 6 months to go...

I think the poor top speed and 0-150mph slower time is mostly due to the transmission and rear-end gearing on the c7Z06 considering the supercharger, extra weight and ground effects GM had to contend with to meet Gas mileage standards for not getting hit with the guzzler tax.

From early owners reports in this cool and cold weather power drops off pretty quick and and over 120 slows also.
WHAT happens on HOT days! My ZR1 doesn't have any sort of issue like the new Z06.
MY ZR1 and C6 Z06 are both staying and looks like I'm waiting
to see more!

And again there are reasons several people who shall remain shrouded in secrecy but have hands on info told me to KEEP the ZR1

Love my ZR1....had her out Sunday parked near (5) C7's. Six were C7 Z06's and one was a C7 Z07. Love my ZR1, only 4600 produced. I was the only ZR1 there out of over 800+ cars.
They will flood the market with C7Z06's...I'm waiting for the ZORA. I hear they will produce only a few and will cost $150k

Considering GM's response in the article, looks like the C7 Z06 acceleration performance is as GM intended/engineered.
Great find.
