Default Battery Charging

Hey guys, just got my ZR1 on Monday and need to charge the battery. I read the posts on the forum about removing battery or at least disconnecting to charge but why can't you leave the battery in and charge from under the hood at the "jump" connection from the factory? It would seem if it is OK to tie in another battery to the system here the current from a 2 amp trickle shouldn't hurt anything, correct? The manual says nothing one way or another on the subject so maybe some guys could chime in and answer this ... Thanks Rich

I leave my GEL battery connected and on a trickle charger everyday and it works great. Have never had an issue BUT that damn battery will die in a few days if not charged

Exactly. Mine is on a Battery Tender if not being driven for more than a few days

About every 2 weeks I connect a trickle charger(Battery tender) up for a couple of days. I connect it under the hood. Battery will be 6 years old in May. No signs of giving up yet. In the spring -- I am going to spring for a new battery.

I wouldn't suggest using a trickle charger because you run the risk of overcharging the battery.

I would suggest buying a battery tender. They monitor battery voltage and only provide current when needed. CTEK is a great brand to use.

I use mine 24/7 when the car is not being driven (Deltran Battery Tender Plus).
