Default My build thread with Vengeance Racing

Well I've finally ironed out the main details with Vengeance and placed my deposit. Let the powerhouse build begin. Goal of this motor build was to make great power yet have strength and reliability while giving me room to grow down the road if I ever decide to throw a big blower on the car. The build is designed to be a destroked motor technically and if I am correct the cubes will be roughly around 390. The reason for the destroke is this gives me more piston surface area and allows the pressure to distribute more easily over the face of the piston and drive it down with less resistance. The lower cubes compacts more pressurized air into a smaller volume giving more power from combustion. This will allow me to rev it higher and maintain strength. Also the short stroke allows the motor to rev easier while spinning the blower up faster. It's also going to be high compression so that I can utilize e85 to its fullest and if I ever need to go on pump timing will be dialed way back and she will be fine to putt around on.

There are quite a few engines ahead of me in line so realistically with the holidays, events and whatnot the motor probably won't be ready till January.

I'll be periodically updating the thread as it progresses along.

The details:

GM LSx iron block
Callies 3.625 crank
Callies XD I beam ultra series rods
Wiseco Forged Pistons (11:1 compression)
Custom Aged ARP Bolts
HellFire Ring Pack
Calico coated bearings
Piston Oil squirters
ARP main studs
Cam Motion Billet cam-Specs: The I don't give a F about driveability
Morel link bar lifters
Katech ZR1 Red oil pump
Cloyes Timing set with billet gears
Innovators West 10% lower with a 2.17 upper
Stock casting LS9 heads with the works

Don't worry she will still get some giggle juice

Let the fun begin

Should be making noise shortly.

Broke/burnt crap is out

Getting close

First start before tune

Car hit the dyno and made 757/831 making 15.5lbs of boost. Since no one has run this pulley setup we didn't realize we had the wrong idlers on the car. So we figure I am missing a bit of boost. I am currently waiting on the idler and I just received a 2.175 grip pulley from Greg. Once the idler comes in I will put her back on the dyno. Also to add I was in 6th gear on the highway and leaned into her slowly to see if the belt wouldn't slip and it started making 18lbs before I ran out of room.

Red lines are my car

A buddy has a sick sense of humor... No I am not a Bernie Sanders fan by any means.

Alright.

Keep us posted on the build. This looks like it'll be a nice, nasty set-up.

I've compared Ace32x and RCC build because those are the closest and if I had to guess she will crack 900 bower only but not sure how far over.

Ron mentioned you are buddies with John Lamonte. Talk about small world.

Nice. Very cool how guys like you and Ace32x post in detail so mere mortals like us can live vicariously through you.

So what's the bore and stroke numbers? Seems like recent OEM motors are coming with shorter and shorter strokes with more boost to compensate vs. the old school method of stroking the heck out of a motor to get more power.

I'm always glad to share.

4.125" bore
3.625" stroke

Yes! I've been waiting to see what you were going to do in terms of the new build. Two questions: by moving to a bigger blower, do you mean something like a Magnuson Heartbeat blower? And second, are you gonna keep the "smored" rear end?

build looks good except i dont know why you keep saying your destroking it :P that is a oem stroke with a larger bore (4.125) which makes 388 cubes. real nice square motor. if money permits ditch the oem heads and go bigger and get some good rockers and rev that bitch out to 8k. best money i spent on mine was those heads and the crower rockers. taking her up to 8 is great for gearing and makes mexico runs perfect never have to shift 5th.

If I switch blowers in the future I'll put a big Kenne bell on her but that won't be for a long time

It's not a true destroke. It's a destroke in relevance to what people build with these motors. Also it's the smallest stroke you can get in the magnum crank.

I don't know that there is much to be had in aftermarket heads and if there is I'm not up to the idea yet of spending the money on Mast heads. The runner size on the stock heads is very impressive and it's actually bigger than most aftermarket heads once ported.

its not the runner its the taller clearence up top to get the shaft rockers in, i agree that the runner itself doesnt make it worthwhile.

its not a destroke at all its just staying stock stroke with more bore. which is fine a 388 is a great square motor for boost. its more than likely what im going to do with mine aswell when i freshen it back up when the 98mm goes on

Sounds like a pretty good plan but I would use a 6 bolt head.
