Preferred brand of oil?
Hi all, relatively new to posting on this forum but I've been lurking for a while.
I've been running M1 5w-30 in my ZR1 and my buddy who also owns a ZR1 has been running AMSOIL 5w-30 in his. We've compared oil temps several times and it appears as if his oil temps are always 10-20degrees cooler than mine.
Last week we took our cars to the local track(both cars are bone stock) and even though it was right around 60 degrees outside, my oil temp hit 270 (was driving the car pretty hard). I then hopped in his ZR1 and drove it equally as hard and the maximum temperature I hit was 259. I feel like this alone is reason enough for me to change over to AMSOIL.
Anyone else have any similar experiences with other brands of oil?

I've been using Mobil 1 0W-40 for about four yrs (switched when the car was about two yrs old at the 2nd oil change--drive about 3K mi's. per yr).
Oil temps are always about 10*F above coolant temps, except in heavy traffic when the two temps equalize. Hottest I've been at is about 230*F (both),
ignoring the original brake burnishing exercise when temps briefly got to 260*F (using Mobil 1 5W-30 at that time).

I have Royal Purple HPS 5W-30 synthetic in my ZR1. For the last 20 years I have used nothing but RP products in everything from vehicles, boats, farm equipment, firearms, auto and manual trannies, 4WD transfer cases, differentials and anything else that requires oil. Never had a problem. In fact when I get a new oil user, I contact Chris Baker @ RP and get his recommendation for which product to use.
Also, 3 years ago I started using Archoil AR9100 Friction Modifier in all of my vehicles. When I put it in my C5Z tranny, I could feel an easier shift and that had a Hurst short shifter in it.

I use that in my ls7. Great oil! Before I was using Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 and my oil pressure would get pretty low when the oil was at +190 degrees. I switched to Redline 5w30 and the problem went away completely. I did pay $193 for 11 quarts and a K&N filter though, so it is quite expensive.

Less wear and tear on parts such as cam lobes, bearings, lifters, and valve guides.
I believe Gibbs is around 1500 ppm in zinc where as factory fill Mobil one is 700-800

Alright so here's one question, in your option if cost is not a factor what is the best oil (brand & weight) period to run in the LS9. We're talking about extending and preserving the life of the engine NOT oils that can make more potentially make more horsepower but making the LS9 live to the maximum life span with moderate driving.
