So confused on property tax on a car. Can someone please explain in detail. Is this outside your normal homes property tax? This on all cars? So what would a typical pay a year total for property taxes?

They get us for cars, boats, motorcycles, RVs as well as our homes. I just got the tax bill for my 2013 Harley and it $411.00. Gotta love it...

ad valorum tax on the 2011 g37 I just bought cost me over a grand. A one time tax. The tag cost I am not sure of yet. The dealer has not come through and finished the paper work.

Some states charge personal property tax on vehicles and other easy to track, higher dollar items (boats, trailers, etc.). This tax is due every year, just like your real estate taxes are. Other states do not do this.

Is this forever long as you own the vehicle? Here you buy a car one time tax which is high in my county it's 8.65% which is paid at time of vehicle purchase from dealer or if bought privately at the DMV when your registering.

How far are you from Charleston ?

Would love to see it......lemme know.

And yes the property tax every year sucks, but since I left CT and paid it there anyway year after year, with the sales tax capped at $300/vehicle in SC and the nice weather makes it worth it.

Besides we all gotta pay somehow no matter what.

Beautiful Car

Dave concrete, if you resided in SC as we do the sales tax is capped at $300 on any vehicle, so 8.65% on $89K would cost you about $7700 one time to NYS DMV, here they get you every year on property taxes so eventually the yearly tax out weighs the one time sales tax you pay.

In CT I would have to pay 6.35% Sales Tax and then the yearly property tax as well, so for some of us its better or worse, in my case its better.

Yes and stay away from CT as well. We get hit with property value yearly, including your vehicle value as well as household items!
Great car by the way Good luck with the sale

Yea, the tax situation definitely sucks. Before long we'll have to pay taxes on the air we breathe. Not that we aren't already. Thanks for the well wishes.
