Default How much should I ask for a trade-in? 2007 C6Z VY, 31k miles

Thinking about trading in, but want to confirm what is a reasonable offer. KBB and NADA say to expect $37k for a trade in. Is that accurate? 2007 C6 Z06, 31k miles. PRC heads, otherwise stock. Wheels aren't prime, all else is. Dyno came in at ~490 at the wheels. I wouldn't mind avoiding the hassle of selling privately, but don't want to take a big hit from the dealer. Thanks all!

My experience with trading in cars is that they usually offer a few thousand below wholesale book, telling you that they can buy your car at auction for X amount of dollars, but I am in the car business (service) and have friends with dealers license.
The prices paid at auctions seem to about what you would pay from a private party.. at least for low mile, well taken care of cars like yours.. there are no killer deals at auctions.. Dealers make most of their money by "stealing your trade"

What I have done in the past is go to Autotrader.com and fill out the section where you get immediate , guaranteed offer from local dealers.. Seems to be pretty close.
If you have a CarMax nearby, they seem to pay more than what the trade in value would be, plus it gives you a good negotiation tool if you are trading it in.. CarMax offer is good for 7 days..

Trade in offer will be low 30's. Dealer near me just had a 06 z lemans blue with 22k listed at $36,800. Lasted for a month or so.

Expect low 30s. I had a lemans blue z06 2LZ with only 33k miles on it and the best I was offered was 32k

I don't want to upset any dealers out there, or others, but it sounds like you are going about the buying process backwards. If you lead with your trade-in value, you are not going to get your best deal. You will be trying to conduct two deals at the same time, and you don't have the experience or knowledge for that. Dealers are there to make as much money as possible, just as you are there to save as much as possible.

Start out by telling them you do not have a trade-in, and stick to it for the time being. Negotiate the very best price you can on the new car. When that has been determined, tell them you might reconsider a trade, and ask what they will give you. In my opinion, you will avoid the balancing act dealers do with juggling two prices to make the deal, and usually leaving you paying more for the new car than you should, or getting less for the trade-in than you should.

I am not one of those folks who say "the dealer screwed me", because they can't do that if you don't let them. Most dealers are honest, and they make as much as they can on each car. Most buyers get all squishy about having that new car, and cannot say "NO!" to terms that are not favorable.
