Default Restrictor plate question....

Looking to see the "actual" difference and average difference from input gathered from each owner....

For all the FI owners who have used both restrictor plate and non-restrictor plate set up on your kit - how much boost did you make before and after using the plate?

If you can, please state what pulley size you used, plus mods

Thanks in advance for all your help

I've never personally pulled the plate on my car, but the last one I saw posted on here I believe gained 1.5-2 pounds of boost by losing the plate. I think the before and after numbers were something like 9.5 pounds and 11 or 11.5 pounds.

9.5# with, 11.5# without. "Without" meaning taking the whole intake off the blower inlet. I think it's a 3.5" pulley that came with my ECS kit.

Lots of runs in this but it basically took me from ~580 to ~620.

depends on the i.d. of the restrictor, not all are made to the same specs... so this is a very hard question to answer...

I just finished an LS2 that we removed the restrictor plate today, I'll post up before an after graphs when I get a chance. The car was in the low 600rwhp area I think prior to removing the plate, afterwards it pulled 725rwhp.
This should be exactly what you are looking for since the only mods are ARH, ECS alky kit, and our base six rib Paxton Novi 1500 kit.

I am curious to know what a restrictor plate looks like. Can someone please posts pics?

Hey Mr. Big,

Depending on the i.d. of the plate? Are saying that ECS makes more than one size restrictor plate?

you should make your own. start with a 1" or so size hole and work up from there. i put three tabs on the restrictor so it would stay om the inlet tube. then put the air filter over the restrictor. making my own i was able to run a 3.4 pulley with a 10% overdrive cank. essentially maxxing out my d1sc. if i would have known about this trick i would have bought a f1a. my shift points are 6200 rpm. this is in a trailblazer ss. with a stock bottomed ls3 crate motor running meth and 10 lbs of boost

my installer felt the need to keep the restrictor in place using the brackets (they insist that it fell out, making another 150hp, going lean and blowing up my first engine)

Yes, depending on size of the engine, IE, a 427 will not get the same plate as a 346 due to it needing a higher volume of air to make the same boost.

Odd, I have never had one fall out?

Thats why manholes are round, so they don't fall through.

... I talked to Chris when they mentioned it, and he told me that it was pretty much impossible for it to happen. My opinion... my installer is an idiot (I have plenty of other reasons for saying that and no, they are not forum vendors)

I thought the purpose of the plate was to increase low end torque (increase low end boost - without overboosting at the top)?

On the graphs from 5 liter eater above - comparing runs #1 and #9 - I do not see much difference in low end torque? (might just be too many lines for me to read clearly).

Anyone have any scans to show this difference more clearly? (Or, feel free to correct me if I have the concept entirely wrong.)

Thanks in advance....

Hey BluV,

I don't think the restrictor plate is designed to create more low-end torque than without... I think it the smaller pulley is what is responsible for creating more low end torque regardless if it's with or without the plate...

The plate is there to restrict the total amount of air that enters your motor at the top end to prevent your stock motor from blowing up!

Smaller pulley creates more power down low... restrictor plate limits max air drawn in from the smaller pulley

But of course, this is my understanding and the folks at ECS can definitely provide a more accurating understanding... Hopefully they can chime in on your concerns
