Default Timing, How much are you running on FI

How much timing are you guy's running on your FI setup?

If your running low boost (6-7 psi) what is optimal?

The outside temp here in Texas is HOT which I'm not sure if you would factor this in.

I have noticed a slight hesitation @ low rpms running the restrictor plate and the small pulley (3.2) that comes with the ECS kit. I think Shawn (Ragin Racin) is running 10 degrees timing but I will let him chime in to confirm.

Thanks!!!

15 degrees, 9-10# As much as you can get until it starts pinging, then back it off a few.

There shouldn't be any hesitation? Unless you have an A6, they have a slight hesitation as it decides what gear to be in?

I'm thinking that the timing has something to do with it but was not for sure. It's just a slight hesitation in the low rpm as you can feel it under 2k normal cruising.

Cruising timing would be nothing like WOT timing. Cruising I see ~35.

So at WOT, I see 10 degrees and low rpm I might see 30+ correct? 5 liter, maybe you can take a ride with me sometime.

Does it kinda jerk at very light throttle? Like cruising through a parking lot?

More then likely its your sparkplugs. I would bet you have NGK TR6's in your car?

Yes, cold plugs. Are you running the same? Should I install a different plug?

Correct.

How low of an RPM does it stutter at? At what RPM does it clear up? Do you have a cam and if so what are the specs?

Yea, if you wanna take a drive down to Pearland.

It's RR blower cam. When I come into boost, I can't feel it but my tires are on smoke mode. I was just curious as to why the slight stutter at low rpm. I guess it's the colder plugs an not so much the timing.

I dont think they are too cold, its just they are copper plugs and the TR6s just seem to develope these symptoms. After using them on 10+ cars, they just act like a misfire after apprx 200-500 miles. Ive actually been using the Iridium NGK TR7IX's in the last few cars and they will go 1-3K miles before they feel like the car is misfiring/bucking.

PS: Since I havent actually seen your car, this is just similar problems that I have had and since plugs are easy to do, its a good place to start

If your fuel trims are way off the car can do this also...

15000 miles on a set of TR6s without issues... I replaced them at that point and they looked fine.
If my car felt like it was misfiring unless I changed my plugs every 200 - 500 miles I would buy another car. This weekend alone I'm driving 1500miles!

Like I said in a previous post... Ive had TR6s in about 6 of my cars, friends have run TR6s in at least 10 different cars, all tuned by different people and ALL of these cars have had the slight misfire feel that was the result of TR6s.... Its far from one car having this same problem

Just because they "look fine" doesnt mean there couldnt be a problem with them...as a matter of fact, if they "looked fine", why did you replace them if you didnt have a problem with them?

Have done dozens and dozens of FI builds over the years with TR6's and have not seen this issue.

But I do agree that plugs are always a great starting point for diagnostics in a situation like this.

However my first starting point would be to have the car logged and check O2 sensors for proper activity, check LTFT and STFT for bank to bank consistency, total advance, etc.

Nice advice Taylor. Its aways a good idea to double check the basics Awhile back one of my close friends actually called NGK to ask questions about heat ranges for for his 03 Cobra and while everyone on the Ford forums were saying that stock plugs were equivalent to TR5s, NGK told my friend that stock plugs were close to TR6s instead
