Default experts needed: LS3 Safe Boost

I am getting a Procharger race valve installed and I was thinking of getting a smaller pulley installed at the same time.

here are my specs:

P1SC with a 4.25 pulley for 6.5 lbs of boost = 620 RWHP 543 lb on
91 octane pump gas only - no meth

I have a upgraded springs and push rods along with a cam and headers.

what is a safe level of boost for an LS3 - I was thinking of going to a 4 inch pulley...

experience please

ryan

Wow.. Those are really good #'s for the P1 and 6.5psi.. I wouldn't turn up the boost unless your running meth.. I run a D1 @ 12-13psi w/ meth and make 710/636.. My afr is 11.2 I feel this is safe and am very happy with the results, but if I were you, I wouldn't push it any more without meth.

Thats a lot of power for low octane fuel, I would leave it there and be happy if I was you. Good luck with it.

620hp or 620rwhp? 620 at the wheels with 6.5psi is amazing. I've got 571rwhp with 8.5psi on my LS2.

no meth...I do have a kit in the garage...just never put it on as I want to keep the car simple.

so just 91 pump gas

I figured I could had a couple of pounds of boost and be safe, but it sounds like that might not work without pulling timing etc... to keep it safe.

I most certainty would not add boost with out adjusting spark...

I'm at 672rwhp on my LS3. 8.5psi with TVS2300. I do plan on adding a boost cooler soon. Meth or maybe WW fluid. I'm not going to tune it to depend on the meth though. The power it's making now is good enough for me. I guess I have about 4K miles on this setup. So far so good.

If ya have a meth kit ...... use it....easy.....along with the 4" pulley....and a fresh tune.
I know ya want more power....or will....inevitable.

My '09 made right on 600rw at 5.5psi with the turbos. I honestly don't see how adding more power makes the car any faster since it's constantly riding the traction control in the first three gears. 600rw is a LOT of power, be happy with it, enjoy it, and don't get greedy.

Those are crazy #'s considering a ZR1 with CAI, Headers, and race fuel and pullied to 17psi only makes 700/700 with essentially the same blower.. Are you running meth?

No meth yet. I run 93 octane and stock heads. Compared to a ZR1, I have a much bigger cam, much better exhaust (long tube headers, no cats, straight thru muffs), higher compression ratio, a better intake, and a more aggressive tune.

Alex Trebec - "The answer is, a safe level of boost for an LS3".

Ding - "What is KABOOM -1 Alex?"

Jez, I don't want to be the Grinch who stole Christmas here but am I the only one who's going to call BS? 620 RW with 6.5 PSI, 91 octane, no meth? With a P1 no less? Either the boost gauge is lying or the dyno is. I'm a little short on cubes but I have a similar setup and I need to push ~11.5 PSI to get my numers.

I agree here. I had 578rwhp and 530rwtq on my last dyno with 9.03max
boost. The tune is the safety in concert together with the boost!

EPP made 671rhwp on just 8.4psi. Mustang dyno. It was done on an LS3 powered Camaro. Procharger D-1sc, cam, and bolt ons. The LS3 headed motors are very boost freindly. Don't guys pick up 40 to 50 rwhp when going from LS2 to LS3 heads on a cam only LS2? If you make them breathe easy (upgrade intake, heads, cam, and exhaust), you don't need a huge amount of boost for 600+ rwhp.
