Default Boost vs Timing

Hi Josh,

I have an 08 LS3 with 3.8" pulley, V3 Si trim that A&A installed. Besides the S/C the car is stock, including oem NPP exhaust, no meth and no headers. At the time of the install, the engine put down 581 rwhp, 13* timing and 10 psi. of boost. Since the S/C install, I had experience some audible detonation. Then, after the emission recall (added two small cats) I had the car retuned and timing was pulled to 10*. My tuner felt the car would run more efficient, if I dropped some boost (pulley up to 4") which he could then add more timing. The car ran 567 rwhp on the dyno with 10* of timing and 10 psi.of boost. I want to keep the car CARB legal and as stock as possible with the exception of the S/C kit. I know the added cats were no benefit.

We have 10* of timing without detonation and if I had to go lower in the future, I would be concerned with the loss of efficiency and catalytic longevity. My car was S/C 'd with 63k miles and currently 70k miles. I also had the engine de-carbed several times to reduce the chance of carbon buildup.

How much power would I lose going up to 4" pulley and let's assume we add couple more degrees of timing vs leaving it with 3.8" pulley and 10* timing? Would the car run more efficient with less boost and more timing?

Appreciate any suggestions.

I'd say try the the 4.0" to shave a few lbs of boost off and then see if he is able to add 2 degrees back in it. That should still get you at least 550 rwhp and be a little more efficient with the timing back.

I am very happy with my A&A T-Trim blower. It put down 540 on a stingy Mustang Dyno. Feels scary fast

If a GS just had your kit installed with the 3.8 pulley, what kind of power should it make on 93? Its all stock except for the kit.

Thanks!

Automatic about 525rwhp on Dynojet and about 550 rwhp if Manual trans.

Josh,

What belt PN/Size do I need for a 3.8" 6 rib pulley and 8" IW balancer?

Thanks,

Are you running the new billet tensioner setup or previous bracket?
Do you have a Secondary drive?

Previous bracket, no secondary.

So if I understand you are wanting to run a 6-rib belt, then get a Gates K060923

Correct, upgrading to IW 8" to get rid of OEM HB and get a little more boost. Didn't see that combo in your belt charts.

Side note: If you add the IW balancer it won't clear the tensioner if the spacing is setup for 6-rib now. The IW will stick out too far. You will need to convert the SC bracket and blower pulley to 8-rib for clearance.

Or I think some guys were able to get the Powerbond Overdrive balancer PB081117-SC10 and it cleared.

My 6 rib Gates Mirco-V K060910 HD Green Stripe belt needs replacing and all of the Gates belts I'm finding in that part number are called Fleetrunner and they are green in color. My belt is 4 years old is the fleetrunner green belts now the replacement belt? It does not look like the right belt to me. Is there a better different number belt than the K060910 belt now? PS from Jeg they have Gates K060910 but when you put the HD on the end making it a K060910 HD it changes to a AC Delco the parts salesman said that was the HD version. Thanks

You can still get either the standard belt K060910 or the Fleetrunner series with HD on the end of the part number. The Fleetrunner is the heavy duty version and usually turns black after it's been used for a while.

Josh,

I have a stock 07, LS 2,automatic, stock exhaust with NPP added. Your kit V3 si with a 3.8 pulley on 93 octane. My car runs great! What would you recommend for my next couple of steps performance wise? Thanks

Talk to the shop that tunes your vette and see if they like using AlkyControl meth injection and go down to a 3.6" pulley and shorter belt at the same time. Would make a few more psi and with the high octane of the meth could run a little more timing too.

Or if you like to drag race a set of drag radials and a nice 3200-3600 stall with external trans cooler would be a great mod.

Thanks, Josh. Do you know of any reputable shops for tuning in the Midwest area? I'm in Illinois but willing to travel some for a good shop.

I'd talk to Speed Inc and/or Modern Muscle out in that area.

Josh, Think of going FI very soon. I think I would be happy right around the 600RWHP mark. I was thinking your SI trim with Methanol injection. Would defiantly appreciate your input! The car is 05 vert, Fast 102 intake, ported throttle body, Long Tube headers, High flow cats, Borla Atak, Holly fuel rails( don't do anything for power but sure look good) MSD Coils and wires, CAI (but that will go away) Elite Engineering catch can (with check valve), Monster LT1-S clutch. Thanks in advance for the information

Looks like a pretty good combo for making big power. If you still have your stock LS2 intake manifold I'd swap it back on and sell the Fast 102 and put that money towards the SC kit or AlkyControl meth kit instead. I've had several cars act up running those MSD coils and sometimes even with the MSD wires. I prefer GM stock coils and wires even on 1000 rwhp builds. You could get my V3 Si-trim with smaller pulley 3.6" to go along with the AlkyControl single nozzle meth and make your 600 rwhp easily.
Do you have a shop you will be working with for the install and/or tuning?

You can email me instead if that's easier to keep track of. Email in my sig.

I have the A&A v3si kit installed by you guys. I noticed that the charge pipe is pushing out the brake duct on the passenger side (Grand Sport). Is there any way around this? I've worn a hole in the brake duct now. Thanks!
