Default 1000whp+ capable fuel system for under $1500

After reading about various issues people were having with in-tank fuel pump solutions over the past few years, I really started to like the idea of a stock in-tank pump + big external pump more and more. Running the stock fuel pump in 'normal' driving conditions would ideally be more quiet, and potentially keep the fuel cooler as well.

As I dug into the parts needed to put something like this together I started making a list, and now that I've tracked down all the parts and fittings, I thought I'd share them so anyone else considering this path can save some time.

Here is a very basic diagram just to give an idea of where everything is going so the parts list makes a bit more sense.

Fuel feed/stock pump:

Personally and a lot of customers don't like the buzz of an external

Surge tank FTW

On the hobbs switch I doubt I'd hear it over the exhaust and blower once I'm making enough boost to activate it

I still like the idea of the surge tank, just want to keep things simple for now. Depending on how things go with E85, I may add a big one just to get some extra fuel capacity.

I have a big external with stock in tank and you can not hear the external because it only comes on when your on it so you got it.

yup, definitely took a while to plan everything out and find the fittings that made it work. Hopefully it saves someone else some time when they look at doing a fuel system.

The secondary pump on an ECS kit only comes on under boost, so all you ever hear is the same noise level of stock.

Tell me about it...

Thats why our fuel systems cost what they cost. Personally I think just ordering an ECS stage 3 fuel system is the faster/easier answer though, but I might be biased.

Dual in tank 340s on a RSI hangar, always on, -10 feed, -6 return, just got back from a 1100 mile round trip, it's been flawless for over 6k miles so far.

tip: dont mount the fpr directly to the stock rails, the fitting breaks off blowing gas all over your engine bay. mount the fpr to the fender and run the line to it.

I love the design. Do you think a person could ditch the stock rails for some after market ones.

Definitely. That's the next thing to upgrade probably if you're pushing big power. It's also another added expense I tried to cut out since stock rails handle lots of power.

This is something I was worried about too... that area seems pretty fragile since the bung is just brazed on it looks like.

I wonder if you could weld the fitting to the rail to make it stronger.

The ECS fuel block is pretty slick, but I was thinking about it, and since you'll have access to inside the tank while removing the stock fpr, you could use basic -08 AN and -06 AN bulkhead fittings. You'd lose the fuel sock on the '08, but save quite a bit of money.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-220882/ (-08 AN fuel tank fitting) Summit $12

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-220682/ (-08 AN fuel tank fitting) Summit $10

So that drops the price to ~$1252

It's definitely nice to one stop shop and get the support that comes with buying a full kit from you guys. Also, the quality may be higher too, I'm not sure about some of these 'Summit' house brand parts and slip fit hoses.

I have a rsi state 3 setup. If I could go back I would just do what Doug said and get the ecs kit. I got to drop the tank again when I get home to fix the siphon pump.

You don't need that check valve in line with the stock pump. Mine is almost 100% like that and you don't need it but looks good to me other wise.

And acctually you don't need the check valve in line with the Magnafuel 750. That gear pump doesn't back flow very well and just to LYK I"m not running any check valves, but you can if you want.

have there been any issues with plumbing out the bottom of the plastic tank w/ lack of a sump and all?

i assume you can go down to at least 5 gal long as your still filling from the passenger tank?
