Default Nick's Z06 V2.0 Build Thread

Since I got to pull the motor out to fix the broken lifter and going with a new bigger badder build I figured I would start a build thread. Motor should be out today.

Still not sure on the plans, but it will include a bigger blower, built motor and more power. End goal is 750-800rwhp uncorrected at 4500ft. Being built to make 900+ later when I get bored at 750-800.

Car as it sits now. I hate snow.

Factory Motor ready to come out. For sale

Other side

Moving it into the house one piece at a time. I'm sure my fiance will love this when she gets back into town next week.

Good luck. As you know Mike, here in NM popped his built LS motor TWICE, putting out 850 to 950 rwhp, with a supercharger. His engine was built by a very respected company, and he was told it would handle 1000 rwhp.

It is the girlfriends. I have to have something to drive when the vette is broke. Plus there is a GTO in the driveway.

Everything looks good. The LS9R clutch/flywheel look brand new. Heads look perfect. Time to get this motor sold so I can start on the LSX. If it doesn't sell in a month or so I'll just throw some pistons in it but I think it will sell easy enough.

Everything looks good. I got the block all ready to get cleaned up. Just going to need a lot of lint free towels and some scrubing time with the motor and engine bay.

PM sent.

The plan right now, which could change depending on my mood, vendors, etc

LSX Block
Callies Dragon Slayer 4.0" Crank
Callies Ultra I-Beams
Diamond Coated 9.7:1 Pistons with steel rings
Ysi
Blower cam (ECS, Dallas, ????)
Fuel System (probably ECS unless I decide to drop the tank)

Ideally I would like to have it running again before I get married on April 14th but that all depends on how quickly the factory short block sells.

Why not a ERL 6 bolt block with LSX 6 bolt heads ported by WCCH

Have others warned you about sleeved blocks or something Nick. I haven't heard of many problems with them in quite a few years. A LSX is HEAVY, but a solid block as long as you don't bore it to the max. They come with the billet mains so thats nice.

Sounds like a good setup. Hope you get it up and running soon.

BTW, my wedding date is April 14th too.

Yes. I know a few people who had issues. I know of one guy mentioned above that had a very reputable shop build a darton sleeve block that was suppose to take 1000+rwhp and had sleeves come apart/drop/leak twice at 800rwhp.

Just trying to help and not trying to throw water on plans - but take a good look at the lack of piston support at BDC when running a 4.00" stroke in the LSX blocks. It works, but it isn't the best solution for a 800 plus hp build.

Any worse than an LS7 block? Obviously it works for Carlye in his 427LSX unless he isn't running a 4.125x4" motor.

Tons of people run a 4" stroke in the LSX block without issue. I'd hardly let that scare you off.

Also, the X block isn't that much heavier. Yes, the extra 80-90lbs sucks but you will probably never notice it.

Hell, run a 3.825 crank if you want, but it's hard to do that to a car that started life with a 427 . Not as many off the shelf parts for those either. I don't think the RHS or World blocks offer much for sleeve length either. Anybody ever weigh all the blocks on the same scale, place, etc. I know the LSX is more than a standard 6.0l iron block. I don't like to hear about any Darton/ERL type problems as I figured I'd be using one some day.
