Default What starter to use with TT kit?

I have an APS style kit and I think I cooked my starter. The current one in there is from the prior owner (TTiX kit) and it's smaller than factory. It doesn't look like a factory unit will fit and I don't want to order 3+ starters to see what works.

Motor is 440ci and I need something that will crank it.

Yes this time I'll heat wrap it. The combo of AZ temps and turbo temps murdered my current one.

Any tips or links I can get would be appreciated.

I used one off a new 5.3L truck it had the same plug as the vettes use, but it is quite a bit smaller and I haven't wrapped mine, but havent had any issures and it was cheaper than the stock one for a vette. It gave me more of an air gap so who knows, but my stocker was working fine as well, just a little tighter fit. someone broke the plug on it so while I was installing the new motor and TT kit I replaced it with this one etc...

you wouldnt be able to directly plug it in... but the TCI mini starter is GREAT on fbody's will bolt onto your motor. just have to re wire some stuff.....

but i think Jeff is on the right path with the direct replace ment.

jeff is that like 2010+ or....

Great replies. I was wondering with the 5.3L starter if there's any issue with a 7+ liter motor as far as cranking goes?

I will look into both and see what the options are.

Good to know. I'm having a shop that does starters test mine and then I'll look for the 5.3 one first.

I'm going to heat wrap it this time just in case.

So what did you do? I'm currently using the factory one and I think it started to take a dump. What did you decide to do?

Fasial i would either use the 10+ 5.3 one like Jeff was talking about or re wire and use the TCI unit.

i talk to casper and see if they can make a harness for the TCI unit..... if so that would be the best option. LOVE these little units.

Thanks Devin

Would love to know if that can work out on an 05 C6.

Ordered up a 5.3 and I should have her back together this week. It's 100* plus out here regularly so I'm less than motivated to work on it. Car always feels faster from the 30lbs I lose in water weight though.

I use my OEM starter with my TTix kit. The housing had to be clearanced a little, but it works just fine. My buddy's 14.8:1 441 cranked over with a factory starter no problem. The 05 will probably do you just fine.

I was clearing out old bookmarks and finally found the link. I wanted to find the AC Delco PN but this will have to do. Should help some guys out. Saying "5.3 truck starter" isn't too specific.

Looks I have cranking issue when hot. Went to TCI on current system instead OEM 2005 starter when had DKT kit. With OEM worked just fine, TCI works when engine cold but when hot it dies.
Anyone else similar problems with TCI? It's heat wrapped.

I had similar problems with the one in my link, the TTIX would heat soak it pretty bad, but since changing to the UPP kit I don't have that problem anymore. Same starter too, never changed.

Why are you using the TCI? Can you go back to OEM?
