NA cam in supercaharged application....
Looking for some opinions here. I am trying to plan a new build and have recently talked to a cam tech at comp. I gave him the specs for the cam i have in my current setup that is supercharged now. The cam was originally purchased for NA setup. The cam does good in HP, but I feel that torque is low. It made 740 hp and 603 torque on dyno, on 8psi. My new forged setup will be more boost. This is a 427 ls7. specs are ls1, but I am running ls7 1.8 rockers. The current cam specs are:
.623 lift int. and exh.
duration @ .050 239 int. 251 exh.
Lobe separation 115
The tech said with this duration that is basically a blower cam. He said it could be tweaked some, but gains would be minimal.

Not bad, wouldn't call it a blower cam. You could put something in that would drive a lot nicer if wanted but if more power is the goal that cam should work pretty damn well.
For example my blower cam is a 230/246 .650.650 116 LSA. Made 1050rwhp with ease.

cam drives pretty good (thanks to tune), sounds great. I do like it, but am wanting what I can get as far as power. If there will be no gains, I don't see the point in spending the money. Are you running the YSI? Thanks for the help!

Yes Ysi. Can there be gains, yes. Worth a cam swap, not to me.

How would this cam work on a s/c setup?
248/262 .651/.631 111 LSA
Seems like too much overlap to me, but just curious what others think.

i'm running one of vette-air "carlos" black mamba cam on my ls7 D1 procharged ls7, not the most blower friendly cam but still put down 755/657 on a pretty conservative tune, has some more left in it for sure, im also still on stock bottom and heads, you should just pulley down and see what it does, cheaper than switching the cam and the results may surprise you..

Thanks guys for all the different input. This technically would not be a cam change since it will be a new bottom end build. This is why I am thinking of a whole new blower specific cam, that way I can just leave the cam I am using now in the motor it is in now. I am just trying to figure out what cam specs make a cam blower specific. I am gathering 115 to 116 LSA, but still uncertain on duration at .050 , but if what I have now is good enough I don't see the point in the added expense unless there is substantial power, torque, to be had. New build will be seeing a bigger blower as well.
