Default Anyone Ever Scavenge a TTIX Kit

My Turbonetics 62/65's I put in last year are leaking from the compressor and turbine side and one is ~binding up. Turbonetics appears to be working with me seeing as they just came out of their one year warranty but they seem to take issue with the drains in the TTIX kit saying anything more than a 45 degree bend in the flange will cause issues gravity draining.

Have you called TTi and what did they have to say?

As much as I love factory turbo cars, I'm really glad I've stayed away from turbo kits for the C6s I've owned. Doesn't seem like it would be much fun swapping out a set of turbos on a TTIX kit. Best of luck getting it figured out.

I see no reason that it couldn't be done.

I had great success with the scavenge system on my old APS setup, no issues with over 50,000 turboed miles, but I recall some people saying their scavenge pumps had failed for some reason.

Anyway, take a look at the setup for the APS kit in their instructions and how it installs for a good idea.(if you haven't already)

Kind of a stupid question now that I think of it. Obviously it can be done. More wondering why the F*** these turbos S*** the bed so quickly.

How many miles? I've got a lot on my TTi kit with no scavenge pump, and I haven't had any issues.

We had the smoking problem due to the engine needing more Evac. So we added -12an to each side of the valve covers and the problem went away. Mine had no problems and my 62/66's are a bitch to fit in a C5. FTL And when I was at TI under your car with you Bill you need more evac for a 100% fact. Its pushing out everything or get a vac pump setup like Jeff. My new setup will have a vac pump,Crank case sensor,Backpressure sensors etc.

Turbos have maybe 5-8k on them...

JM, I guess I could run it with the valve covers off. I have a -10 on each valve cover to atmosphere. When I added the second -10 it stopped pushing oil out the rear main.

Since I put these 62/65's (and new motor) in I have not had smoke out the back until last week, not sure what would have changed to make them start pushing oil out both sides all the sudden. Since the one is sticking they're both going to get looked at. I just don't want them crapping out again after I put them back in.

Really they shouldn't be any different than your old turbos and they were fine when you pulled them right? Other than turbonetics having a more restrictive fitting (not sure of this) on the ball bearing housings I can't see why one would be any different than the other. same housings, etc just a 65mm exhaust wheel and 62-1 compressor.

Interesting read. I have the same turbos, but I have not noticed any smoke or leaking from the compressor or turbine housing. Only the oil feed line which will get repaired soon by Nick S. in Tennessee. I don't have a scavenge. I will keep you posted.

Well since they were JUST out of warranty, Turbonetics wanted ~$900 to rebuild them. SMH. But they did point me at the rebuild kit they sell. So I'll be doing them myself.

I asked them if they thought I was spinning them too hard and if that caused the issues but they said no, that it was likely shutting the car down right after a run. Does anyone run a turbo timer on their C6?

Not really much reason if you don't beat on it for the last little bit of a drive, or let it cool for say 30 seconds and run decent synthetic. You really need to shut it down right away if you are reading plugs, but it's not like you do that a lot of times. It might be a little more important on a non water cooled turbo though and better to run it longer. What sort of oil temps do you see?

That was my thought. Not like I shut it down RIGHT after a pass. I guess on a hot day after a pass or two they may get up to 230ish and even with my oil cooler their not going to come down much letting it idle for a minute or two.

Oil temp won't come down much in that time, but exhaust temp sure will. What type of oil do you run?

Rotella 15-40 with a bottle of STP oil treatment.

Yea the oil temp isn't really as much an issue as the turbos' temp.

I see, I run Rotella t6 which is the synthetic 5w40 version. I run it in my bike, audi, vette, lawn mower etc. Just a decent cheapish oil. I know you can get more thrust wear with a low zinc oil so you should have been fine. Synthetic should coke less.

Stick with ball bearing turbo and you'll avoid this problem.
