Default Spals New Brushless Fans

Spal has a new fan line called Nuova. These fans are superior to anything else on the market and standard equipment in the new C7 Corvette.

These fans are variable speed with integrated digital electronics. No PWM controller. Higher CFM ratings and "soft start" technology.

The 16" fan is the exact same mounting pattern as the older fan with 30% more air flow. There is no dual fan package available at this time however we will be creating one on our own.

Here is more on the line....

Good to see this. Even with dual spals, dewitts radiators, and every cooling mod known here in Phoenix cars still run too hot.

Will these fans offer more CFM vs the current dual spals that you allready have? If so Im glad I waited lol.

Tom, can you PM me a package deal on the dual setup and a radiator for an '08 C6Z? I need something to offset the Alabama summers.

Based on years of talking up the advantages of aluminum radiator technology versus older brass/copper radiators I see this new brushless technology to be even a bigger hurdle to explain. That's because there is no simple answer to the question.

Up untill now, all fans came with a CFM rating and that's how everyone evaluated the product. That CFM rating was based on zero static pressure or in other words, no restriction. The number was a baseline where all fans could be compared but no fan was ever used this way. When you mount the radiator in front of the fan you create a restriction. This restriction creates a vacuum or negative pressure that is typically measured in inches of mercury. The true measure of a fan is how it performs with a given restriction in front of it.

Below you find a link to a pdf page on our website. This page does not list a CFM rating but rather a curve. The curve is comparing a 16" brush type fan with a 17" brushless fan. Both fans would have been rated at about 2500 CFM in the old way of thinking but let's assume that your radiator, bugs, dirt, and a few wrapper creates a restriction of 0.8 H20 vacuum. The older brush fan would drop from 2500cfm to about 600cfm Nobody ever knew this, but that's what happens to all fans. Conversely the brushless fan only dropped to 1500 cfm, which is more than double the old technology.

Another reason the CFM ratings on the new brushless fan is not listed is because they are variable speed. They will only run at the speed they need to run to maintain the temperature of the sensor you selected.

Some have asked if they are quieter and the answer is, "they can be".
That is because the fans may be running at 1/2 speed instead of blasting away at full speed.

Keep in mind, this product is new and we need to develop packages and pricing for each application. This is not a thread "forsale" but rather a technical update. Stay tuned

Thanks Tom. I work with Variable frequency drivers here at the plant so I know where you are coming from. Pitch of the blades will also an affect of the amps drawn and pulling/drafting of the fan. Look forward to the new product.

I'll see how fast we can come up with something but peak summer season is really hard to develop stuff. What I usually do is build one or two of something and work with someone (guinea pig) to test out the fit and function before mass producing. This takes a little time to get it design, built and installed with feedback. If you want to be that guy, let me know. keep in mind, this system is designed to be self contained variable speed controlled by the internal digital technology. Every C6 owner is going to ask me how to control this from the ECM, and while there probably is a way, we don't know and Spal isn't going to tell us.

I'd be more than willing to stress test them out there in Phoenix on a 1000+hp blower car that stresses the cooling to its limits. Already have a spal/dewitts setup but that isn't sufficient in the heat.

Tom,
Do you offer anything like this for the ZR1? I am in the process of some mods which do include a larger heat exchanger and pump. Do you have a fan/radiator combo?
Mods will be heads/cam/pulley/headers

thanks - rob

Please do it with yours!!
I have the same setup with dual fan and dewitts radiator,,, the heat is killing here especially in traffic and even at midnight you still over heat!! (currently the temperature is 110F)

Tom, this is good and we hope the cooling effect will be doubled

If you would be willing to ship me one to replace the factory unit I already run mine off a thermostatic switch and relay. P.M. me a price if interested.
