Default Built 6060 for Fi differences?

hopefully some one can help.

i have a Z51 6060 and was looking to eventually do a built trans..
i THINK i recall seeing that the z51,z06 and zr1 trans cases were all a little different with the ribbing and location of the Trans coolant line, but RPM told me " no they are all the same"..

does anyone have or remember the thread that showed the trans's next to each other showing the differences?

thanks in advance!

I know the gearing is different between the different ones, and also the max torque ratings, but I've not seen anything about the cases exterior being different.. I learn something out here every day though, so I will watch this thread

Gearing is different across all off the models. The ZR1 unit has stronger (different material) gears, hence the higher price. Somewhere around 2010 (I think) the inlet location of the oil line moved further up in the case to return the oil directly on the input shaft gear. This is important as most of the 6060 failures are due to the failure of the inputs shaft gear from long pulls which generate excessive heat on the input shaft gear.

I'm not sure if this is the one you were thinking of, but it's the only good one that has some of the info you were mentioning.

There are two options when installing an 09+ trans and diff into an 06-08 C6 Z06.

To install the 09+ ZR1 transmission and differential into an 07 car you will need the 09 torque tube and rear suspension cradle. If you don't install the torque tube and cradle the cooler line on the ZR1 differential will hit the cradle solid and won't allow the differential mounts to sit onto the cradle.

Another option is to disassemble the ZR1 differential, plug the factory cooler pickup hole. Then drill and tap the case for the 06-08 cooler pickup location then reuse the cooler lines from his broken differential. This will allow you to reuse his current torque tube and cradle.

You will also need the cooler line from the heat exchanger on the differential to the front driver side of the transmission. The return hole was relocated on the 09+ transmissions.

I just modified my ZR1 diff cooler line to return like the ZO6. No issues with the rest of the install.
