Default Supercharged: How Much Power Gained from 4" Intake?

Hi guys,

I'm wondering how much whp is typically gained by you guys that went from the "dongle" intake to a true 4" intake on a supercharged car. Would be on a ~750whp D1SC car at ~13psi. I've seen some of the 700whp+ turbo supras gain 25whp just from adding velocity stacks on turbo inlets but obviously very different setups. Is it possible to gain 40+ whp just from adding 4" intake and a big velocity stack?! if so that's a huge gain and I'm not sure why everyone isn't running this?

I'd like to go to the 4" intake setup but it seems like a huge PITA ton of work and so trying to see what the benefit is before I pull the front of my car apart.

any dyno comparisons out there of before/after on the 4" intake setups?

thanks

All depends on the setup. PC dongle is the worst out of the big 3 brands for vette so they see the biggest gains. Why more people don't do it? Big cost for little return. Gains can be 30-40rwhp on some cars, 10 on others. ECS dongles flow damn well. I made 1050rwhp with on, no issues. So is it worth $500 radiator, the work, and the pipe cost to gain 10-20? For most people, not really. Most cars are limited by fuel system or motor before the inlet ever becomes an issue.

I picked up 36whp by throwing on the Dallas Performance big mouth intake.

thanks guys,

do you have a dyno sheet Detoxx? that's super interesting.

more info on the setup Unreal? that thing sounds like a beast

For me, I'm looking to max out this D1SC and so if I can pick up 40whp just with some work and $250 then I think I'd do that for sure. I haven't looked into all the work yet but I have the large Dewitts radiator and have heard of people laying them down or just having the top modified by a radiator shop to have a "notch" put in it, which is what I'd probably do. I've heard that costs about $100. Then the tubing on ebay is about $40 and then a big 4" velocity stack and filter is $75 so it's a lot of work but 40whp for $250 seems like could be a fun winter project.

also, I didn't realize Dallas Peformance had a 4" intake. Too bad they don't seem to make it anymore

but just googling that it seems like 40whp gains are quite common which seems crazy to me

I guess A&A has some new dongle out too that is worth 17-20whp as well on 600whp setup so I'd imagine a 4" straight setup with good velocity stack would do even better on a higher hp setup too

after reviewing this is worth it to me and bummed that there isn't an off the shelf kit so I'm going to work on this over the winter and start a thread here about how i did it. going to use 4" tubing off ebay and a 4" blox velocity stack with filter (assuming can make that fit)

A filter that fits in the hardest part. Are you sure DP isn't selling it anymore?

I reused the stock ECS filer. The pipe is the easy part, that took 10 minutes to fab up. I believe the PC kit can be made to work without the short dewitts, but the A&A or ECS kit need the shorter radiator.

It is well worth it on a PC kit, not so much on the other kits because they come with better intakes factory.

The gains can be about 30rwhp.

We have all the parts in stock to make the conversion for you.
Just drop and email to ts@procharger.com

The stock intake acts much like an ECS restrictor plate, and allows for a little bit of "choke" at the top end, to gain midrange TQ on cars that are 650hp or less. Anything more then that, then yes the 4" tube is ideal.

Drop us a line, we can get you handled, without breaking the bank.

Thanks
