ugh thats what i was afraid of....

Now just need to hear someone give a review of the MT IIs vs nt05r for every day street use as far as handling and grip etc.

ET grip better, handling the same. NT seem to last a bit longer. So it is a toss up between grip or life.

That is all in the ratio of front to rear. Easy to fix that on your nt05r now, just up the front tire size.

fair enough... just tough because im running 2 diff rear tires... one for non summer which works perfect.. then the MT drs i didnt really have to much a choice in the size.. but i should have figured something out

If you have two sets of rears and the heights are different, you need two sets of fronts....that's if you want to keep the nannies from getting all pissy.

Yeah, you're not likely to find any regular street tire that hooks up better than an RE-11. Maybe something like a PS Cup or an R888 would give better straight line traction, but those are R compound road race tires.

if we were to go with a stickier rear tire like those mentioned in this thread, what do you put for up front? I always match all 4 tires with the same brand but would you be okay putting say a Michelin Super Sport up front and then something like a Nitto, RE11, or one of these other tires on board?

Well if you run a DR you can't match the front, or shouldn't. Just run a decent tire up front. I run MT street comps up front on all my vette wheels. They work fine.

Somewhere along the line you will have to compromise. I have a 2013 SS Camaro with a Whipple and around 580 rear wheel horse power. I love my Michellin Pilot Super Sports. 315/35/20. They are not very good in first gear but hook pretty good in 2nd. Only problem is they only last around 30 to 35k miles. Ride is good and quiet!

right that's kind of what I was getting at.

I wasn't planning on a DR for a street tire. Car gets driven 12-15k miles a year. I've gotten good life out of the Michelin Pilot Super Sports and Bridgestone Pole Position S04's and awesome grip when on all motor. Supercharged they both beg for mercy.

So from the standpoint I need a tire to last "just a little" what am I going with?

I figured a michelin again as a front since they last a while and then go with a rather sticky tire out back??

Any quality front should work. You want sticky enough for brakes to work well, but no need for super handling/etc because you are rolling around on a drag radial and aren't going to be railing through corners. Like I said, I run the MTs up front just to match brands, but a nt05, PSS, Re11, or any solid street tire up front that is the correct size will work just fine.

That's why I've "compromised" and just ran RE-11s on all 4 corners instead of a drag radial out back. The RE-11 is a street tire that's very popular with autocross guys. It has a very still sidewall and excellent handling, but is surprisingly sticky for it's treadwear rating.

I'm happy to give up some ultimate straight line traction to keep the handling balance of my car as it was from the factory. Just grippier.

Yeah i guess when i bought the MT's i THOUGHT about the size diff but secretly hoped that it would be minimal and not throw and issue.... I was wrong lol

I guess the end of the line is I have 6 rims ... I want to get 2 DRs nt05r or MT ETII which I have on there now and I love the grip and I guess can deal with the loss of handling ... but then ill need 4 "street" tires that are decent ... seems like people say the re-11's are near the top of the pack as far as street tires go eh?

I'm not that concerned about life of the tires.. I mean obviously it would be nice to get 30k out of it ... but anything over 15 or so I would be happy with as long as im safe and grippy!

What are the issues? Is the alignment good? When I first put on my 15s I got engine drag active on DIC a few times driving around, after alignment it hasn't done it. Must be close to the limit. That being said, who cares? It isn't hurting anything, it isn't messing with anything, it is just giving a temporary warning. It is like driving with the TPMS light on, it doesn't do anything besides tell you something, so is it really an issue?

I wouldn't care about a light... the issue is that with the re-11s up front and the MT DRs on back ... when I try to brake the ABS kicks in basically does not let me brake anywhere near what i should be ... so merging in traffic in the mornings I speed up and move over... then try to brake and almost rear end people lol... also at the track .. slowing down from 120+ and abs kicks in not letting you brake and the end of the track coming up VERY quickly is pretty nerve racking... same issue when i did 1/2 mile drags .. 160 and trying to brake made me clench the old cheeks lol

What size are the front RE-11s and what size are the rear Mickeys?

Strange, you must be way off then. Tire size typically just does the engine drag warning.

I also wonder how many people put a bigger tire on and don't go into the tune and adjust for it.

245/40-18 up front i believe and 305/30R19 out back which throws causes traction control issue (but i always turn it off anwyas so thats not an issue)

the MT ET 2s are P305/35R19 ... which is the only size they come in 19 inch ..... and this combo throws abs when I brake ....

The 305/35/19 is a pretty tall tire compared to stock and I don't know the effect on ABS. I run the 305/35/18 MT ET2's (which is pretty close to the diameter of the stock sized 19's) with stock sized tires on the front and have no problem with ABS despite braking hard at the end of 1/4 mile runs.
