Default Adding a blower. Do I add a cam? or leave it stock?

Well I have picked the blower set up out and will order it on Wed. Now I need to know if I should do a cam at the same time or just leave it alone for now. The car is 100% stock and I love how it runs and drives. I dont want to kill that or the MPG. Will a good mild blower cam really makwe that big of a deal?

What would be some good choices, mild.

Could make another 30-40hp, but it depends on goals. If car is bone stock, rather see the money go towards a meth kit, or tires/clutch.

I'd do long tubes before adding a cam. If you have a Z06, you already have a pretty good mild cam that will work well with a blower.

I went with the A&A Vortech supercharger. I also went the American Racing headers. I'm at 643rwhp. I'm thinking about a meth kit next. I figure 30-40hp more from the meth. I had a 269 mile trip back home from the shop and averaged 23 MPG. I probably averaged 80MPH the whole way. I decided against a cam because I petty much use my Z06 as my summer car unless it is raining. I also went with the Akrapovic exhaust. It sounds badass now also. If you have any questions let me know. Oh I did have to put a fuel system on also. I had some problems with the Boosta pump and got tired of pissing with it so I got rid of it..

If you have a z06, personally I'd address the exhaust valve/guide issue first if you haven't. Buuuuut since you'll be in there anyways, why not throw some springs on it and a new cam? Lol

Also I second the methanol injection if you're using a centrifugal blower, twin screw... eh.. doesn't do much for cooling, but it is a nice safety cushion on octane.

I have not yet. I am going to check them for ware this week. I'm going to make a valve spring tool at work out of some SS. If they are starting to go I will send them out to be fixed and ported.

Open up the exhaust, +/- meth (I went without for now), and save for the other things he mentioned.

You'll make a bit more power than me (I'm LS3 based instead of LS7) and I'm at the limit of traction for most street tires. With that said, I'd hold off on the meth but make sure you get headers with the install.

What did you do for a fuel system? I can't even imagin this car with that much power.

Blower/headers/exhaust/meth= perfect.

Stock like drive ability with 200+ HP more.

If you're wanting 650hp or less, stick with the stock cam...especially if you drive the car a lot and are remotely concerned about mpg.

Staying stock cam. Now trying to find out what people are doing with the MAP sensor. Running stock or changing it out.

For low boost like 10-11 psi, stick with a mass air meter and mass air tune. Your over all driveability will be closer to stock with the MAF tune..

When I had my stock ls6 w/d1sc procharger, the engine was completely stock with the stock maf and it literally idled/drove like a new Vette. 10 psi made 622rwhp and basically felt like a stock car with way more power.

If you want to read boost from your OBD port, get the ZR1 MAP sensor. Otherwise, probably not necessary to swap it out.

While I'm not sure if the ZR1 MAP sensor is a direct bolt-on for the LS7 like it is for the LS3, having a MAP sensor that can accurately read boost is a good thing. While it may not be huge, it does affect the injector flow rate tables, and I'd rather have my PCM seeing as accurate info as possible. It's worth spending a few bucks extra on in my opinion.

Agreed. I just bought a 3 bar MAP sensor and called it a day. Hook it up to a DashLogic and voila boost gauge. Here it is in action...

That's awsome. I want one.
Was the sensor you used plug and play or did you have to mod it?
Do you by chance have the part number for it?
