wasn't it damp in the morning? The dust pays a large factor too. Usually pretty dusty until some passes get made and blow it around.

I was going to mention the dust. Certainly more of a factor in the far lane, but to me I still seemed to have less traction issues in the far lane as I think the moisture slipped over to the closer lane before drying out.

I also just packed the car and went. Left my spare and jack at home. Won't do that again, in fact contemplating buying my trailer back from the shop that works on my car. Just having a flat there with no spare was a problem. If I had something worse I'd have darn sure wished I had a trailer to get it home in.

My DRM shocks worked great... I really think it's a pressure thing. My 17" M&H tires wore the middle ~8" of the tire out pretty bad aired up... you need them down around 15psi to get a flat contact patch.

I'm sorry, but 170MPH+ on 15 PSI tires with no cage is cray cray.

I think I'll get an AWD car before I take up this hobby.

can't knock it till you try it. It's stable. And on another note the Vette frames are roll over certed to 200 mph if I'm not mistaken. Only car that doesn't require a cage at the silver state challenge in Nevada

With that said I still have a cage in mine. And a 10 point going in the other build

I rather not race than put a cage in. Drive the car around way way way way too much to have a cage in it.

Will definitely try lower pressure. It was perfectly stable at 20.

rsd cage isn't intrusive at all. What I have in the zr1 I wouldn't have put it in except most events make you have one over 190

Not sure that cage would do anything in a roll over. Look at where the main hoop bolts to in the Vette.

Agreed with that. RSD cage looks more show than function.

Valve covers off and drilled, weld on fittings later today. Should have tensioner welded up today too.

My experience on these type of runways at ~200 rwhp less than you has been that traction can vary by a HUGE amount depending on temp and runway prep. The last one I ran at it was close to 90 degrees out all day long and my car would dead-hook 2nd gear at 50 mph on RE11 street tires (with a little burnout and slight airing down of the tires). The runway had also been cleaned off with a street sweeper before the runs started.

The event before that was spin city through 2nd and 3rd, but it was a lot cooler and windy. The track also hadn't been cleaned by a street sweeper on that event. Same location and runway, though. It was so frustrating that I barely made any passes that day. But yeah, huge difference in traction based on those things. I can only imagine at 900+ rwhp. You have much better tires, but still.

They didn't clean it, morning was wet and ~50F out, afternoon was mid 60s. I agree, I bet it would have hooked a lot better cleaned off and in the 80s.

I can see one to pass tech, but I doubt it offers much more than factory in terms of protection, so until I'm forced to do one to run an event, I'll stay factory.

Looks like a ton of fun

I too would like more info on what suspension setups people are running for this type of racing.

Nick, from all of us in NY, Thank You for posting the event coverage. Very cool pics here.

I know a lot of F16's from Luke AFB had sometimes used Gila Bend as an emergency landing strip.

Spent 4 years stationed our there, 94-98, best weather in the Nation
