Part 7
Heat Management
When turbos are involved so is heat! This is where PTP Turbo Blankets has stepped in and Provided every solution in the book to keep ambient temps at bay under the hood and keep all the heat in the hotside! I cannot begin to tell you how impressed I am with the quality of their product and would def recommend them to anyone even if it’s just headers going on.
What you see here is:
PTP Gold Adhesive Thermal Barrier
PTP’s Adhesive Thermal Barrier Plus
PTP Fire Sleeves
Velcro Heat Insulation Sleeve
Spark Plug wire boots
Starter Heat shield
Lava Exhaust Wrap
PTP’s Adhesive Thermal Barrier Plus is incredibly thick and definitely some heavy duty stuff we will be using inside the trans tunnel.
PTP’s Velcro Heat Insulation Sleeve makes it easy to wrap any wires such as the starter wire and 02 sensor wires with ease
PTP Fire Sleeves will be utilized on all of the stainless teflon hoses being used around heat such as the oil feed lines and wastgate lines.
Starter Heat shield is a must! As the proximity of the turbo hotside is mere inches from the starter.
I chose to use Lava Exhaust Wrap on the downpipes as it has the highest direct and max contact temp limits. I also love the fact that its chemical and oil resistant and doesn’t require to be wet for assembly.
Spark plug wire boots where chosen just for extra insurance, they will be going an already awesome plug (firecore.)
Downpipes wrapped! Took me about 25min. per side and turned out awesome! You can also note that I will be dumping the wg to atmosphere.
The downpipes are going to pretty much sit right at the beginning of the tunnel and will generate a lot of heat so while the tunnel brace was off I quickly stenciled the pattern unto the PTP’s Adhesive Thermal Barrier Plus and worked up some magic! (if there’s any interest I’m sure I could work with PTP to provide a quick stick on package already cut.
The Dry sump lines will be running ever so close to the passenger side turbo and practically touching the compressor housing, just as a quick measure I utilized the Velcro Heat Insulation Sleeve (which fit perfect might I add) to shield the lines from any direct heat.
Now a big surprise! PTP decided to start production on a titanium Heat shield to fit over my manifold and also has enough flexibility to fit over most any shorty manifold setup! This piece is a work of art! I already have a vented hood which are located pretty much right above my headers so between the heat shield and that my engine bay should be extremely cool
My Turbo manifold and pedestal! Also in picture is the DKT turbine housing.
Blanket!
Manifold covered
They have also chose to begin producing blankets for the DKT Turbine housing which quite doesn’t fit a t3 or t4 blanket. So I you have these turbos this blanket is perfect for it!
Manifold and turbo blankets dry fit!
ARP Exhaust manifold studs on both sides to assist in bolts never coming loose causing a leak
Passenger side Manifold and turbo only dry fit
Full assembly for last dry fitting in engine bay and with blanket.
Now working on the passenger side which has been a bit of a pain… so I went to machine shop and had them take off a little off the top for clearance on the compressor inlet housing.
STAY TUNED MORE TO COME!

Looks good just installed mine today the manifold blanket looks cool, not sure how well it's going to work with the spark plugs etc... First set of eBay turbo blankets got oiled up this last motor so I have a different set this time seem to fit pretty good for $75. id be interested how those Blankets wrk for you.. As well as I had wrapped my Manifolds and DPs and used the engineeeed tunnel plate with the heat barrier on it as well as ARP studs lol. Like I said in an earlier post we've got a TON of the same parts. Looking good!

Great looking build. Looking forward to the results of this. I like the attention to detail, but I am very upset that I didn't get pretty pink boots on my Firecore wires !!!!

Truly awesome stuff. I had no idea manifold blankets even existed. That lava wrap is that shiz. Great stuff to work with. If the plug wire sleeves don't work for you (as they didn't for me, kept burning up MSD wires) I use Accel ceramic boot wires. They seem to be holding up much better.
I also dig the studs on the turbine/downpipe. Great idea. Top notch stuff all around.

Not much longer now!
Dont have much more to go...to do list:
1. complete vacuum/boost lines on wg(s)
2. finish wrapping heat shield on electrically things
3. bring both turbos back down and assemble with stainless 1 time use gaskets and oil feed lines etc..
4. relocate oil cooler
5. finish PCM swap and wiring of everything
6. put front bumper back on
7. tq rockers, fill engine with fuilds, turn over, set to 0 lash, tighten everything down for final time.
8. start!

How long do you think it'll be until the first start?

Supremacy 1 car at a time
I really loved that build and was about to do the something a few weeks ago for a friend but I find out one of the members here that placed an order in November and got nothing until this day with no replays so I stick with the F1X and nitrous best of luck to you and I hope to see it all together.
