Na, just been cruising around on the few non-rainy days we've had here. It's actually been kind of fun having the 19/20" r888 setup on to take it through the twisties and still stick 3rd gear from 60mph. Just have to run slower cars... my buddy's 870whp gtr was a pretty even race actually.

I'm picking up a cam from tooley to install mid July

Engine builder went a little different direction with his cam recommendation:

240 (XTRM) / 258 (LXL) .615/.615 116 + 5

I'm far from a cam expert, so anyone here have thoughts on how that compares to the Tooley one:

238 (qxx) / 259 (huc) .643/.632 115 + 5

Tooley went for the mild lobes to maintain excellent valvetrain stability. Your engine builder used some mild lobes as well compared to what some people use, but not as mild as Tooley. They should both peak and make similar power with the bigger MAYBE a few hundred higher. Honestly I would go with Tooley's since I prefer stability. I have ans EPS/LXL cam in mine I would have loved if the qxx or huc were available back then.

Just my opinion since I'm not a cam expert but know quite a bit after exchanging emails with Martin@Tick.

Here is the breakdown of events.

Your builders cam.....
IVO 9.0
IVC 51.0
EVO 70.0
EVC 8.0
17* overlap

Tooleys cam....
IVO 9.0
IVC 49.0
EVO 69.5
EVC 9.5
18.5* overlap

As Pitufina said, most of the difference is in the lobe profile. Which can be splitting hairs if your not pushing the valve train hard (7000+rpm or heavy valves...etc).

So revving to 7400rpm with ss hollow intake valves and inconel exhaust I might prefer the tooley cam?

If you want to rev that high I would use a heavier spring and better lifter then the LS7 with the Tooley spec cam.

The tooley high lift/smooth lobe one?

Or the engine builder more aggressive lobe/lower lift one?

Any concern using stock LSA valve guides on a .643/.632 lift cam?

Tooley's cam will have smoother lobes. Thise lobes are mostly designed to be light lift. I wouldn't be concerned. I personally would use Brian's specd cam.

IMO, either one.

I like the tooley cam.

7400 rpm isnt very radical for valvetrain.

LS7 lifters, how do you set preload on them?

Springs were shimmed on the rebuild to get back to ~1.750"
