I'm wondering what the difference is. I was gonna run the pure methanol that I get free from work, but I have often wondered if methanol is methanol. Or if there is additives used in what you would buy at say the racing shops.

From my understanding M1 is pure methanol and M3/M5 have additives that are more suited to engines that are running off of Methanol. I'm not sure if they are lubricants or what. I would think VP's website would give more information on the specifics

Nearly everyone on here seems to agree that M1 (or pure meth) is your best bet for meth injection

See if you have any local oil suppliers that sell things in bulk. I get 55 gallon drums of pure methanol for $150 delivered to the house.

I did a back to back test on it over 100% M1 and it picked up 15/15.... i was SHOCKED... this was on a 700rwhp car with twin nozzles.

Wow!

Do you have any experience with M3?

"I'd use regular methanol like VP's M1 for the injection. This is what I personally use. All you are using the injection for is to cool the air charge. This is how you get more power, because you can add more timing or boost with a cooler charge. M3 has a hydrocarbon in it and won't pull the heat like M1. M5 has a hydrocarbon and a combustion additive. I would definitely not use this. It could have bad results by combusting in the air inlet tube between the turbo and the throttle body. M1 is your best choice."

Well yeah, there's that.. the combusting the air in the inlet tube thing, lol

Upon further inspection, it is methanol 3 that we have at work. Is it ok to use methanol 3 ? I get it for free so I'm hoping it will work. Not trying to highjack the thread, but maybe it will be useful info for others aswell.

From VP's website: "For 60-70% of methanol applications, M3 won't require jetting or timing changes-just pour it in and get an immediate performance improvement in all areas. In the other 30-40%, M3's added vaporization may actually hurt volumetric efficiency and performance, which is what lead to the development of M5. " That's why I didn't want to mess with M3. My tune is buy one of the best in the industry, and didn't want to change it. My luck I would fall in the 30-40% and mess up my tune.

What If your not running a turbo?

That is very interesting. Do you run M5 in your car now/all the time?

Yea I talked too Julio also from alky control. He said it would mess up the seals in the pump. He said the seals in the pump with M3 or M5 would only last about a year.

Don't the seals only last around a year with M1 anyhow?

I've had mine in for four years, Running exactly like it did new. Put down the same dyno #'s as I did 4 years ago. I would say I'm not loosing meth through my seals.

I just swapped out a 4 year old pump. Just going by the indicator light the new pump comes up to pressure much faster.
