Default (what are the MN6 guys running?) 17" drag pack tire choice for M6 GS (675/580)

Also posted in Drag Race Forum...

I've been searching and discussing with the local guys...I want a max effort drag combo as the 345/19 NT05R's are great for around town but a bear to hook at the strip.

Supercharged 675/580 car with a McLeod RXT just installed.

I'm buying the rims this week from a local owner.

so...starting to lean towards bias ply for consistency and since its a clutch car more forgiving. The rims come with new M&H front runners (radials) so it was tempting to just add some M/T ET Street Radial II's 315/35/17. However I am leaning towards bias ply.

Discussion and advice is MUCH appreciated.

(background, I do know what bias ply slicks "feel" like as I have put miles on them at the strip and um, uh...the street in the past)

Would rather run radials BUT not at the expense of the drive line and performance.

THANK YOU!

Those 315's are way too short. I'm not familiar with 17" sizing but you want a 28" tire.

I was informed a 28" tire is too tall and will set off TCS / AH hell.

Myself and many others run M&H 325 /45/17 in the rear. The specs say 28 inch although on the car they measure more like 27.2 inches. No TCS / AH problems with them.

just got a pair of 17x9.5 chrome c6 style rims
I will either go with 26x11.5x17 et streets (bias ply) 26.5" tall slick
you should be able to trap around 140
or the new ET Street R is supposed to be bad a$$ it's coming out soon
(bias ply and radial compound) 305/45/17

28" tire is too tall for your power... A 26" tire is better for you gearing wise for the 1/4...

Vengeance suggested at my power level the 26", they said the 28" would likely ET the same but MPH would probably be down.

What power level are running??

BIGMAC
well depends on the diameter of the front I would think

I've heard that quite a bit...any advice or comment on bias ply vs. radial for a MN6 car??

btw, I ran it last weekend on the 345/19 Nitto DR's...trapped 131mph but driver mod needed as I kept getting consistent 1.99/1.98 60ft (FAIL).

Ran 11.21/11.22 (103+ 1/8th mile)

You should see 1.7's easily with those tires. I have them on my C5 and ran 1.7's the only 2 passes I've made in it, with about 200hp more than your car. Could have easily gone 1.6's on those tires. 17psi and a healthy burnout with a hard clutch slip.

I'm no expert but a 315 35 17 measures 25.7" and is ~1.5" shorter then your current tire which, in my opinion, is way too short and will look silly. I would go with what realcanuk suggested. That tire would be perfect for you.

I'm making similar power to you at the moment. Thinking of adding meth and more boost soon!

I am going to need new tires soon and really want to try the new MT's but I didn't see a size I like. I really need 27-28 inch height. It sucks because those new ones sound like they should be great, from what I have heard.

The 305/45/17 ET Street R should work, 27.8 inches tall.

I am in the same situation as the OP, but I'm making around 600 on motor... and to be seen on nitrous, but it should be north of 900.

On the blower setup I had, I was pushing over 700rwhp and my mantic 9000 didn't last 4000 miles. Granted it had 50+ track passes, but all of them were easy launches (1.7-1.8 60') and hammering it as soon as I got rolling. I had one launch where I slipped the clutch a decent bit for a 1.6 60'. So I'm looking at bias ply for mainly saving my clutch and other drivetrain bits, and weight/cost are a nice factor. The ****** part is my new welds coming in are 17x11 on the rear, and I believe MT is discontinuing the 26x11.5x17, the only other bias 17 is a 28x10 from hoosier but then I'd be stretching the tire. I'm interested in the new et street R which I think would be awesome for airstrip duty but they say it has less give than the current ET street radial... so that would mean more clutch slipping at the track to get it to work.

Actually, thanks for reminding me. I saw that size and meant to check it more closely. The problem is I don't want to buy it unless I can actually check the installed height. The M&H are about the max that will work, but the installed heights are never what they list in the specs.

If I trust the specs, it will work but is just a little more narrow than I really want. Might be worth a try.

I've gone 1.79s on nitto invos. Now I have 18" mickey thompson 345 drag radials and with 780rwhp I'm impressed on how well these hook on the street. Can't wait to run them on the track.

Just received, mounted and installed arguably one of the first pairs of the all new Street R from Mickey Thompson. I wish I could have a report from the track but it seems North Texas is having a monsoon season this year. More rain already than all of last year!

315/35/17's on 17x11 Weld RTS, just touching and squeezing the "tread" and these things are soft and sticky.

GS MN6 with A&A kit, McLeod RXT clutch, 675/580

First drive: well it stopped raining long enough for the roads to barely dry, very humid. Went out with no prep, never even spun the tires and tried a 3k RPM launch on a concrete surface. It hooked!! Rolled the throttle just a little and then on the floor, spun a little at the top of the RPM's at full boost. Tried it a couple more times with consistent results. Turned back for home just as the rain returned.

Really looking forward to the real test at the strip!

REGARDING INSTALLED HEIGHT:

Despite being called a 26" tire the installed height is just short of 25.5". I feel like they'll still be fine as gearing will be excellent.

Although i sure am curious what actual height is on the 305/40/17 which is supposed to be a 27.5" tire,
