Default ECS Paxton 2200 8-Rib Belt Broke...Help!

So I was driving my 08 LS3 w/ ECS installed Paxton 2200 w/ 8-Rib Kit and I noticed a ticking sound from the hood. I popped it open and noticed the belt was starting to shred on one side. Any idea what could be the cause? All of the work on the car was done by ECS.

Could it have damaged the head unit? And how would I go about aligning a new belt? I've briefly read about a laser level.

looks like a misalignment issue..

u need to check pulley alignment with the laser tool by gates....use the crank pulley as your checker..all other pulleys must align with the crank pulley cause that's fixed
it took me a lot of hours to do mine but pretty easy to do..check the calibration on the tool before use

How long was it on there? If it was 8-10k+ miles then just throw a new belt on. Something like a small rock/debris could have got under there and caused that. Now if it is doing that <1000 miles, check alignment. Typically with the IW 8 rib kits it is the PS pulley out of alignment.

The car only has 6k miles, so it definitely hasn't been on there for more than 4k miles.

Could of just been a bad belt, may never happen again with a new one. Or alignment is off pullying it up onto the front ribs then shredded it like that. Check alignment and go from there.

How long ago was the work done? Not often you see a full 8 rib anymore.

I'd say it was done around 4 years ago...what's the easiest way to go about checking the alignment?

With the amount of time you have on the build, I would recommend changing the belt and enjoying the car again. Yes checking alignment is certainly not a bad idea, but I feel it is unlikely that it is off given the mileage and time frame you have been driving it.

Agreed with Doug. 4 years is a long time and if you are doing 1 belt every 4 years, that is great.

I just got the belt off. It looks like something may have been rubbing in that one spot?

Likely it is normal wear and tear.. Didn't get the back story but 4 years on the same belt is insanely good!!!!!!!!! Change belt and be happy

I got the new belt on. What's the quickest and easiest way to check the belt alignment before driving it?

Gates and Dayco both make a laser alignment tool. The gates seems to be more common around here for some reason. I think the Dayco is better, though it's a pain to use in the cramped Corvette engine bay.

Either one should work

On mine you could see the belt wanting to go to the very rear of the alternator pulley. The gap between the belt and the pulley on one side was different than the other, and that is where my problem was. That may be something to at least look for
