Adjusting Cog Belt Tension on ECS Flip Drive?
Anyone have any input on the correct way to adjust the cog belt on the ECS flip drive? I broke mine today on my second outing and I wonder if I didn't have it adjusted correctly. The instructions I have don't mention it. The tensioner can go two directions. One toward the balancer and the other more toward the cog pulley. I had it toward the balancer, but noticed if you go too far it will hit the balancer. I also didn't have the belt real tight, figuring with cogs it didn't need to be very tight. Maybe that's why it came off. The other belts were all still fine so I don't know if it moved over and the other belts caused it to break or if it just broke.

Cogs need to be tight too, im going flip so ill run into this soon. I hated cogs because the teeth would just shred off if anything was off. I hope i get the cogless setup because ECS is doing a revision on cog. I prefer no cog. As far as the tensioner i believe you had it correct and need to tighten more next time.

I had a few recommendations not to run the flip drive without the cog. Even Doug at ECS said they had problems with the accessories slipping and voltage dropping into the 9v range without the cog setup.

I have a 270 amp alt so i doubt ill have that prob. If slip ill tighten little by little..

This is probably the best picture I have. It's mostly the same except the ac belt no longer runs the accessories. It uses the factory ac belt and the cog belt runs the accessories. The bottom right pulley in Cartek picture above is the tensioner pulley for the cog belt.

I guess I should have said it's the space between the 2 belts. It gets cogged all the way across in the process even where the belts don't ride.

Ok i see now makes sense but youre right i dont like them being the width of a 4 rib just imo. I dunno if i like the flip now. I would like a straight 8 rib setup. IW offers a kit for 1100. http://www.innovatorswest.com/991-8-Rib-Kit.html

Yup i had this type setup before and it made me cry every run on track i blew threw a cog belt. Many here prob wont have a prob but i prefer rib any day of week.

Just went for a short drive. Didn't get 2 miles down the road and broke another one. No hard throttle or anything. I don't know what's causing it. With the cog belt off I can turn the alternator which turns the power steering pump and the cog pulley by hand pretty easily. Starting to wonder if I had them too tight, but I'm going to run out of belts before I figure it out.

hard to tell from your pic due to the angle, but is the cog pulley in line with the balancer?... I would assume if it's misaligned it would shred or toss belts just like a ribbed pulley would do

Most ribs give u a second chance cause theyll usually just jump over a rib. Cog is less forgiving imo. They will just shred teeth and bye bye belt
