Half Mile event - 162MPH
Just did my first 1/2 mile standing start event yesterday with WannaGoFast at their Texas event. Fastest speed of the day was 162.2MPH, and all my runs were very consistent, with none lower than 161, and another 162 to validate the first one. Strip was very dusty and it was hard to hook up (actually had best runs starting in 2nd, but part of that is the really steep gearing), and I was having to shift to 5th before the traps, so I think I was probably leaving around 5MPH on the table. Next time I'll be getting some taller tires for the event and maybe upgraded valve springs and raise the rev limiter to try and carry it through 4th. Anyway, was a lot of fun!
Car specs:
2013 Grand Sport M6
Only mods are: A&A V3 Si with 3.6" pulley, dual nozzle meth, speed density tune, & LS7 exhaust manifolds with gutted cats.

Yes, Rick ran a 170MPH.
No issues with temps, but then I'm running a Dewitts radiator and meth injection.

Yes, definitely not a lot of traction. I ended up doing most of my runs starting in 2nd.
I heard there were 43 Vs there on Saturday, that was almost 1/3 of the total cars.

I am running meth injection, but haven't upgraded radiator yet....car runs pretty good temps (cool) with the vented hood (when moving).I have never been able to stay in it for that long though,so I was curious.

good job glad you had fun!
I ran the same times 160-162 as well at the WannaGoFast event from last year. We are similar modded. I'm hoping to go with stickier tires for this year's upcoming event. I agree going into 5th the engine I feel bogs.

I played around with gear calculators last night, and I'd have to drop the differential ratio to about a 3.08 to be able to pull 4th with stock valvetrain, the problem then would be if I do the mile my effective 5th would really suck for the mile. I'd really love to do the ZR1 tranny, as it's 5th is .81 (vs .71 for me now), which should make it easier to pull in 5th.
I was running Continental ContiForce DOT road course tires (80 treadwear), but they didn't seem to help much. My buddy Rick with the black GS was running the new M/T Street SS, and they seemed to hook better, but he was still having traction issues. Heck, even the guys running super tall slicks were still spinning like crazy. I think for the next one I do, I may run either a 345/40R19 or even a 355/40R19 to try and get an effective taller gearing.

I have a buddy with an A&A ls3 that has like 25k miles on his stock clutch and he road races it all the time but no real launching. it was fine but he put hoosier drag radials on it last year and the clutch did NOT like that one bit and slipped and smoked and had serious issues. I think stock clutch can take a ton of power but be ready for a clutch upgrade if you put real drag radials on it imo
