Half Mile event - WannaGOFAST 170mph
I saw Evan posted his great results and mine were mentioned as well. Our friend Joe went 160mph with cam and headers only on his yellow z06, you already know Evan ran great through manifolds and stock cam at 162, our buddy Eric broke his 1000hp build last week so came out in a borrowed c7z and had some great runs.
My runs: Evan and I played with a gear calculator and then discussed with Patrick at Quality Motorsports spinning the car through the traps. He felt it was no issue with my valvetrain so we raised RPM limit to 7000 each gear and 7300 for fourth only. I wanted to run 345's but my Michelin's had the high speed death wobble so I picked up the brand new MT Street SS in a 325...as luck would have it they measured tall! So the plan was "if" she had enough power to try and come as close as possible to redline at the speed traps.
I was rewarded with two 170mph passes! First pass was a hairy 166 and had to get completely out of it in 3rd, then a 170 on the 2nd run. I guessed that hitting 5th would rob 4-5mph and actually lost 6 mph on the 3rd pass as I went 164 in 5th gear. Next pass backed up the 170 and then finished racing a 850+hp ProCharger Camaro...went for ET this time (wanted the stripe) and got him by a car at 168mph. Never got beat to the finish
My build: A&A V3 w/supplied 3.8 pulley (9.5 psi), headers, cam and meth. Heads never been off the car and I do have a MN6 w/RXT clutch.

Nice runs. I want to give it a shot with my ECS setup sometime but I need tires and a clutch first. 170 is strong.

Car runs strong! Now put a 3.4" on it and see what she does!

how did the et street s/s feel at 170?... I will be needing new rear tires soon and have been debating using them or sticking with nt05r's... my concern with the mt's was high speed stability and handling... whatever I go with will be used year round, I don't want to swap tires out all the time

Damn...skip the 3.6 altogether huh, ouch.

Please know there is NO COMPARISON in low end hook to the Nitto's, these feel almost as good as the 17's I have MT Street R's mounted on. Reasonable street launch on concrete and I can hit full throttle in 1st!

Man, what everyone reading this thread needs to understand about Rick and his car is that NOT ONLY does he race the **** out of this thing, but he drives it too... always going on long road trips, trips to the 1/8th mi trips to the 1/4 mi, street runs, doesn't matter. This car will eat your lunch and youll be asking for more please! Awesome car Rick and a great guy to boot! Nice runs buddy.

You don't need drag radials for land speed style racing and your not banging gears like the dragstrip. Decent rubber and stock clutch your good to go.

Actually, I can't keep the tires from spinning even in 4th gear so I need some drag radials. I might be able to do ok with something less but since I need tires anyways, might as well get the dr's. I know what you mean on the clutch. I'm just afraid once I get the tires, it might not last long at my power level. I'll get there one of these days. Lol!
At 702/617 as long as I roll the throttle and don't bang gears I can hook my street RE11's.
As far as clutch my stock one was fine...on the street. First time at the dragstrip with DR's launched fine, hit second and the clutch went, let her cool down and she got me home AND TO THE SHOP THE NEXT DAY! Haha

I got the idea from CF member Joe_G who uses that method to monitor and learn from his dragstrip runs. Of course with a GoPro your field of vision would be much better.
I'll snap a pic of the HoPro mounts and post later for you.

thanks a lot Matt...sorry you couldn't come play. You could have waited till third gear then hit the "button" through the big end, or maybe even wait for fourth then juice it!

wow, amazing that winding out 4th vs. shift to 5th was worth that much mph. i would not have guessed that. for a car that gets driven on the street i think the nt05r is hard to beat but at 850whp they spin for me top of third on the street. Takes real serious heat in them for me to hook third,
love the "hopro" hahaha....i hadn't though of using that gps mount like that. good idea

interestingly creative...nice!
I have mine behind the two seats. Does an "okay" job. Can't see the speedo that well...
Racing in 100 degrees never a good idea....killed my MPH even with methanol but still fun.

On another note, I have some very good friends that live in McKinney so I get out there pretty often. Maybe we can meet up sometime.
