Default Overvolt with ECS 1500

Going out on a limb here - I am having issues where when the car is under load, my alternator is overvolting.

I ran a few tests and without the blower under load, the car runs perfect 13.5-14~ volts. If I put the load of the blower on, it goes to 15.5~ and slowly increases. The max I've seen is 16.5.

I was thinking voltage regulator but why would it only be affected by the load of the blower and not when I had it N/A during my test?

Also - will 16.5~ volts hurt anything if briefly spiked to for a few seconds?

can't say why the blower is cranking up your voltage, but yes over volting can cause the battery to swell and pop. It aint purdy!

Thanks for the heads up.. my battery is in the rear compartment so that would not be good

I tried another alt but it was a bad reman I think. Started the car and it went straight to 18V at idle.. I know it was a true reading because all my gauges started going berserk. I shut it down immediately. Got the old alt back and it's charging fine (except under the blower load).

Sorry I can't be a better help to you here, but I never ran into this scenario before. GLWI

To close the thread - it ended up being my battery... it was a fairly new battery too (less than 6 months). Must have just got a bad one. New battery - no problem!
