Default 150-200 Shot on A6 Grandsport Question

What kind of 1/4 times are you guys seeing on a 150-200 shot heads/cam A6 Grandsport? I know of some base models going high 9's on these setups, but the Grandsports are a tad heavier. Also, is the A6 holding up on these shots?

If you have a good tune and a progressive the trans should be fine.

Thanks MBB. It seems from what I've read on here, the life and capability of the A6 is all in the tune. I'd just like to get some feedback of 1/4 times with a 150-200 shot.

I went with boost on my GS after having a 200 shot on my base. The first tune had the A6 on my base damn near eating itself alive. The next tuner got it right and the trans shifted flawlessly even on dope. The tune and safety measures are the most important thing.

You're probably looking at mid to low 10s.

Dang, I was hoping for a lot better than low to mid 10's on a 150 or 200 hit, especially a 200. I've personally seen a couple of base models go high 9's to low 10's on a 150 hit. Maybe the extra weight of the GS just isn't worth it.

It's gonna come down to conditions & of course set up of the car. I went 9.96 @ 140 on a 175 shot in my base mild H/C car on a small drag radial. Race weight is 3300 lbs & I can't spray out of the hole due to the small tire & all stock Z51 suspension. Same set up went 10.72 @ 126 on mtr in good conditions. Good thing about the GS is you can stuff alot more tire underneath it. If it were mine, I'd have the trans tune looked at by a competent shop/tuner, put a tire, a 200 shot & let it eat. That set up should get you some 9 sec slips in the glove box.

As far as the general setup on the car, it's got a set of Mast heads, large cam (can't remember specs right off), Yank 3200 stall, bolt ons. From what it seems it's going to take a larger shot than 200 or possibly go with a blower to get mid 9's, even if it will then.

Please note, my numbers are super conservative as I don't know how you drive and I didn't know you were stalled. 9s are easy to hit in these cars... worry more about the setup than the times. A 200 shot should be plenty with a good trans tune and your mods.

You should have more than enough to get to the 9's with a 200 shot with your set up as long as traction is there. Are you close to sea level or are you at high altitude? My h/c is very mild in comparsion to yours. Before swapping to the auto trans mine made 495 rwhp on mtr & 630ish on a 150 shot, lost a solid 30-35 rwhp on mtr with the loose converter & auto trans. Once i get a handle on my traction issues with a bigger tire & or a progressive controller so I'm able to spray out of the gate I dont think I'll have an issue with 9.60s on the same 175 pills. We'll see. Good luck with your set up.

You will have plenty to go 9's if you have traction.

Good to hear. I was hoping these mods with a decent shot would get me in the 9's. As far as traction, I plan on doing a spindle swap and going with 15 inch wheels.

4k lb 5th gen camaros are running low 10's on similar setups. I don't see a problem for you. Honestly I don't think you need 15's. 17's should do the trick but more sidewall never hurt.

I went the 15" conversion route as well, it's a spendy option but traction seems easier to obtain. An added bonus is tire prices & size options are opened up.
