Cowl area holes will hurt cooling. That's a high pressure area that will block air from being pulled out of the engine bay.

Here's my poor illustration at 65-70mph of airflow. I need to repeat it though. The strings lifting is a sign of air coming out of the vents.

LME built my motor and some of the fastest LS motors on the planet and they recommend the Joe Gibs oil.

my car is typically 170s coolant and 190s oil in just normal cruising around with some stops. LSX iron block with procharger. dewitts and upgraded fan. If I do some pulls in the car the oil picks up heat fairly quickly though. side shrouds and top shroud on the car helped noticably with cooling.

IMHO, Chev recommends Mobil oil because Mobil gives it to them in hopes that new owners will continue to buy/use it.

Personally, I use Royal Purple 10w40 in my ProCharged 6.8 liter engine.

My coolant runs around 195-200 when its 90deg or less out.
My oil runs 145-150 on the freeway and under 200 all the time. I need to change this to heat the oil up. I will probably do a radiator and add the oil cooler to it.

What is the lowest "safe" temp to run the oil at before you can start to rip on the car. If I'm at the drag strip or do a 1/2 mile event, I don't want to heat soak my car in order to get the oil temps up. The coolant will heat up much faster. So whats the lowest safe oil temp?
