This block or that block
So.. this winter I will be doing a 427 build to dish out 1,200 hp of pure punishment to the pavement. What block would you choose?
- GMPP LSX (3)
- RHS
- DART (2)
- ERL (3)

Would never build a 1200hp corvette but if you insist lsx. Ls next too unproven but shows promise. Erl super deck would be Choice after lsx.

Ive owned a 600rwhp vette and a 600rwhp Mustang. Ive owned a 700rwhp vette and a 700rwhp Mustang. Ive owned a 800rwhp vette and a 800 rwhp Mustang. And I would pick a 600rwhp vette over 800rwhp Mustang. That's just my opinion. The only thing id pick over my vette would be a built GTR, UG Lambo or a UG R8.
On a side note. I think the LSX block has been pushed to 2500rwhp in a promod The Erl block i think has been pushed to 1800rwhp.

LSX or Dart..
If you want the strongest option, go with the Dart block with the 1/2" main stud upgrade and the big block ford main journals..
For what your doing you can get away with the SHP dart LSNext block which is the skirted version and is actually cheaper.

I would not ever recommend over ~800-850 in a c6. That is the sweet spot for power/reliability. Once I get a project car like a fox body, sn95, old camaro, etc I would pull my motor/combo and put it in there and just build a nice 600rwhp n/a setup for the vette and then a nice solid axle big tire car for 1200+hp.
Yes my car makes a bit over 1200rwhp. I would start with a different car if that is your goal.

ERL Option
Steve,
Looks like you have quite a build planned. I would love to talk to you about our blocks. Our Superdeck 6-Bolt motors have been proven for many years in mild street applications as well as race dedicated 2,500HP+ cars.
Our block comes in about 150lbs. lighter than an iron block. The length of the sleeves/liners is also to be noted. Our liners are 5.800" which really helps with piston rock at BDC versus shorter liners.
This October we have new pricing coming into effect, because of the volume that we are now doing and since we have re-tooled our machinery to only LS blocks, we are now able to offer an even better price for our blocks.
Because we start with a factory casting you don't need to any aftermarket adapters, everything bolts right back on.
Here is a link to our block options with the new pricing listed, another nice thing about our blocks is that all machine work is included, you get the block ready for assembly! : http://www.erlperformance.com/produc...-for-assembly/

Thanks, I had not considered ERL before. So the pricing on the website shows with core exchange is that correct? I will not have a core.

The prices listed do not include a core. For most of our 1,000HP+ builds we use a 5.3 4th gen aluminum block. You can find these pretty cheap, we sell them for $850 and this is refundable with a core exchange.

Had the SHP been available when I built the lsx I would have went with the SHP. Uses the factory covers.. The proprietary LSX rear cover is retarded.

My buddy owns the 1500rwhp TTZ06 built by Vengeance racing. It has a 440ci RHS block and he loves it. He's also a multimillioniare that has money to burn if something goes wrong. Im not a millionaire so I had to go with something proven. I went with ERL cause of the weight savings.

Yah I would strongly look at the new skirted one, but like I said, until I see someone do 30k miles on a 1000+hp build with one, I would just do a LSX.
