Fuel Pump Advice - ECS, Built motor, want clean
Well Guys,
Blew my motor in September, finding out now it was probably due to a fuel pump failure on the track. Built the motor and on the 5th tuning pass on the dyno the fuel pressure dropped completely. Luckily nothing bad happened and it was noticed at the beginning of the pull. made 650/650 at 8 psi on the 4th pull and not even done yet. 93 octane ECS 1500 kit, LS3 freshly built - rods, pistons, blower cam, etc etc.
So -- the pump is heating up and fails after it gets hot. After it cools down it works fine for a bit until it warms up again. So since I am going to take it out and replace it, what are everyone's recommendations? I considered the ecs stage 1 fuel system, but I need to replace my stock pump also, so it doesn't make much sense to me.
I have seen people doing walbro 450s as a drop in with minimal modifications.. Are there any better or recommended options since I need to remove the stock pump as it is?
Shop wants 1100 (parts/labor) to pull the pump, modify it for a 450, and put it back together. Also want some opinions on that.
Would love to get some feedback and if there are any CLEAN, simple options.

Fore is a beauty but requires a lot more work than I'd like to do. Would like to keep the fuel system and stock, clean, and simple as possible. Keep stock bucket if at all possible.

No more work than swapping stock pump out. Keeps it clean and provides more than enough power for anything you can do with the 1500 later. If you really don't want to do that, then just do a stock drop in replacement and ECS stage 1.

For what its worth, I was asking all the same questions. I needed to upgrade my fuel system.
Most suggested to just add a external pump as they work well and save money. With going to flex fuel, My fear was then the stock pump would die and I would end up pulling that down to replace it any way.
I just ordered the Fore set up with the Fore rails and a set of ID1300X. This way once its done I should be good no mater what direction I go in the future. I'm no pro and the guys like Unreal and Detoxx have been around the block. My goal is a clean safe 800-850
From the looks of things you have put a lot of time and money into the car just as I have. I'm also willing to bet your not going to be selling it any time soon. Buy good injectors, and a good fuel system and be done. Looks like you've done the rest.

Simple, clean, and is ready for E85. I'll honor the black Friday pricing if you're interested OP.

Contact STG in Collinsville IL. They've installed several fore kits and will get you taken care of. If my Eliminator pump ever goes south, I'll be taking UNREAL's initial advice with a Fore dual pump setup, and probably having STG install it.

You take your car there? I may have to visit them. I've been wanting to throw mine on a dyno. Do they have one?

I have friends that have used them. Them and Chad at CBI are killer wrenches. Better then the Yahoo shops up in Chicago. I'm just sick of dropping the tanks and they have it down to an art.

Chad installed the injectors on mine when I had Dave tune it. Chad has some great prices on wrenching and knows his stuff for sure. I do all the work myself and now tune my own too.
Btw, STG appears to be in Granite City. A little further but still somewhat close to me.

I have used Dave Steck who sadly moved to TX, Shane Hinds, who it is my understanding tunes for CBI now after Craven and just saw in the STG site that he tunes for them too.

I also do all my own wrenching normally, as I work on several cars here locally. Ross Owens out of Springfield IL is who I use and send my customers to tune. He fixed the wreck of a tune said northern shop did with this car. When I got it back (was there for a tech article), it'd barely start due to being lean and was peg rich at WOT.
