Diy big mouth intake for under $100
So looking for intake for my z06, and found a big mouth intake but at $300 plus shipping and needing new low pro rad I decide to go the diy path, heres the finished result
Lets get started.
you'll need,
102mm 4" Length 2ft Aluminum Turbo Piping Tubing 45 Degree Intercooler Pipe. cost $24 on ebay
Black 4" to 4.0" Straight Silicone Hose Pipe 102mm Intercooler Coupler Turbo, cost $6 on ebay
K&N RF-1040 Universal Air Filter, cost $60 on amazon
And last 2- 4" hose clamps auto parts store $5
now lets get started on the build
first remove the factory intake and ic piping
as you can see huge improvement on air flow over stock filter
now we can remove the ic cover and start on the first issue.
the radiator sits about 1/2 inch to high, so what I did and do at your own risk is trim the top radiator about 1/2 inch.
I used a angle grinder
now lets test fit the filter, its a tight fit but it fits
now heres where it takes the longest,
cut and fitting the 4 inch 45 degree piping
it took about 8 cuts total to get it to fit just right
you'll want about 1 inch left on each end before the pipe starts to bend
now lets test fit it in the car
now check hood clearance
clears just fine
now pull everythiung back out
use sand paper or dermal to clean up the cuts and smooth everything out.
now all thats left is to trim your cover i cut it at the 3rd bolt brakcet and installed
now enjoy the power and buy some beer with the $200+ you just saved

Mine was even cheaper. Went to friends turbo shop, saw a piece of 4" pipe laying in scrap pile. Picked it up, welded on a nipple for vacuum/catchcan and threw it on.
