Wanna bet?

In your case (headers and 160 thermostat) if you are running the base calibration that Edelbrock built for an otherwise 100% stock car then yes, you need the car tuned for your setup in your environment.

Mail order tuning is a guesstimate at best IMHO and a potential disaster at worst. Spend your money wisely..find a local tuner with a dyno that knows what he is doing and knows what your car is doing!

For my engine tuning, I've used my Diablosport preditor (dont sigh) and monitor a whole bunch of parameters with the DSDataviewer, with this data I've dialled in the Long term fuel trims (LTFT) by -7% to be in the ideal -2 to 0 range and PE (WOT) AFR to 11.88 with average O2 reading 0.92V with a -7% (PE) adjustment across the full rpm range, recorded TKSR (Knock) of only 0.087 deg throughout all WOT pulls.

I know it probably could be fine tuned even more, but the way its driving now is more than enough, I probably will end up purchasing an HP tuner, the support on the HPTuners site is fantastic.

As it stands now, I'm happy with the engine unless someone chimes in and says my tuning is going to blow the engine up with the current tune and using the SCT tuner that came with the Edelbrock, I may as well get something done on the A6 side

Where is your wideband o2? Left or right bank? At 11.9 to 1 you'll want to keep an eye on #6 & #8

No wideband, just straight from both O2 sensors. From what I've seen on HPTuners and Diablo website forums, the O2 sensors (left and right) are pretty damn accurate, I could easily decrease the AFR and increase the O2, the ideal O2 should be between 0.88 and 0.98, so my 0.92 gives it a bit of give either way.

I'm not familiar with the technique of trying to tune PE with narrowband o2 sensor data so I'll back away from any further input.

Thanks Ken, I always appreciate any input that you provide. Forgetting about the engine tune, what are your thoughts (if any) on a "mail order" A6 tune

My thoughts...

- Real sports cars have 3 pedals on the floor
- Everyone has different goals for how their A6 should feel
- A canned tranny tune is a start but you'll want to tweak it for your own desires
- If you had HP Tuners I could save you some money on that canned tune!

Mail order tunes when done right are pretty good. The main thing is the customer has to Datalog the info and give it to the tuner. If the datalog is correct the tune will end up very good.

Tony Gonyon, one of the best SCT Tuners in the country does ALOT of remote tuning sessions... Tony is EXCELLENT

Yes.. as long as you provide good data to your tuner with data logs with a wideband you'll be able to get a good tune. As an option for ANY supercharger kits we sell we offer tunes for customers. An initial "conservative" tune is given to the customer and the customer will work with our tuner to give them the best possible tune.... the key is providing good datalogs to our tuner.
