Is a tune on a stock car a waste of money?

It's a N/A engine.... I can't imagine it would yield more than 5-10hp at most.
I could see if I was doing a cam, intake, headers, etc..... but on a stock car?

If you have an automatic, it's worth it for the change in shift feel. Otherwise... not really, unless you hate skip shift as much as I do.

Tune on a stock car, yes it is worth it. If it is an A6...no brainer. The M6 is still worth it and you will feel a difference. The mid range is greatly improved on the M6. On my stock LS3, I dynoed 407 rwhp and 402 ft-bs with a tune only. For fun, I reinstalled the stock tune and could not stand it. The throttle response was sluggish. I have dyno tuned many Vettes and even with the LS3, I have seen 15-20 rwhp.

Feel free to search some of the feedback that others have posted about loading our tunes into a stock vette, don't take my word for it....

Speaking for myself, I tune every car and truck I buy while they are stock. I can feel a difference, especially in throttle response. As I add mods, I retune as necessary. This way I can determine what I have, so I can decide what needs to be up graded.

As a side note, IMHO , every tuner on this forum has been very helpful, direct , and genuinely up front about what they offer. I learn something here everyday, .

My experience with my 2011 A6 has been this. Bonestock it ran 12.6@115mph and the car was pokey on the stock tune. I purchased the diablo tuner and went back to the track with the tuner in the hatch of the car. I verified my stock runs and then loaded the 93 octane tune and ran 12.3@117mph. My car never went slower than 12.4 @116mph all night. My 60ft.s were better too with the tune loaded. I dont go by dyno numbers because they can vary but back to back runs at the track is what does it for me. There really isnt any variables except DA change or track prep and that wasnt the case on this night of testing. As for driveability it is so much better than stock, I could only imagine what a custom tune can do. Take it for what its worth and hopefully this answers your question.

A6, yes.
M6, if you're racing or have money to burn..., sure. Not racing or like to get the most bang for the buck,... there are other things to spend money on first.
Just one guys opinion.

I didn't have my '11 GS A6 tuned for more HP, but for better throttle response and shifting. The car changed dramatically for everyday driving with an ECS mail order tune. Having the tuner in the car with a laptop and using a dyno would probably make it better, but it is a tremendous improvement over stock.

I had my engine, trans tuned, and COW booster. Lot better running, shifting, throttle feel. Best money I have spent on it so far. It is stock except for K&N cai, flow master exhaust. Not a vendor just a more than satisfied costumer.

I have a 2008 LS3 with manual trans and Halltech Superbee. Tune made a noticeable difference in throttle response (which is what I was going for), and the increase in gas mileage will pay for the cost of the tune over time. So it is essentially free.

I have the exact same setup and I did a custom tune. Made a noticeable difference with and increase in RWHP and Torque. Where it made a big difference was from 2900-5800 RPM. Next is LS7 exhaust from the manifolds to the the tips.

You'll notice a differance. It wont be 25 RWHP, but it will be a much smoother running car through the RPM band when you get on it. A6 owners enjoy the tranny changes.
If you do, atleast change the air intake system before the tune. Its the first choke point

Thanks everyone!
I'm having an LS7 exhaust (manifolds, downpipes/cats, h-pipe and mufflers) swapped tomorrow and was thinking about having it tuned BUT didn't really know if it would make a difference or not.
I think I will wait another month or so until I get a CAI and then have it tuned. I won't be doing any other bolt on mods after that for a long time.

While you can prove dyno gains from a tune... I'm very convinced that people are just convincing themselves they feel a difference from a tune on a stock car to justify spending the money. As I said earlier, A6 cars are definitely worth it. You have to figure though... On a 400+ HP car, feeling another 10-15 is tough.
Now I'll sit back and watch as everyone says their butt dyno is precisely calibrated.

My concern is if it's placebo or not. Which is why I was asking for non-vendor input on this.
